Shows like Americaโs Got Talent are constantly on the lookout for fresh new faces that they can transform into stars. This isnโt always an easy search though.
While there are many hopefuls that would love to be crowned winner, or at least become one of the competitionโs fan-favorites, only a select handful are worthy of the title.
Here we had the chance to meet a 12-year-old named Kadie Lynn Roberson. The country girl comes from Kemp, Texas where she lives with her parents, who adopted her when she was just a baby.
Kadie Lynn started showing a talent for singing when she was very young. But, there arenโt many opportunities where the family resides.
The tweenโs hometown is so small that thereโs only one stoplight. Fortunately, her loving parents are so supportive that they would actually drive their daughter around to other towns just so she could perform.
For Kadie Lynn, walking onto the iconic stage of AGT must have been a dream come true.
It was easy to see that Kadie Lynn had a country spark to her. Wearing cowboy boots and carrying an acoustic guitar, she was ready to perform for the judges and hopefully stand out from the rest.
The moment Kadie Lynnโs voice emerged, all eyes lit up.
She began singing a rendition of Merle Haggardโs, โTwinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star.โ As Kadie Lynn belted out the lyrics, while strumming her guitar, everyone stared in disbelief by what they were hearing.
Now, this was a 12-year-old with talent.
On top of Kadie Lynn having a beautiful, mature-sounding voice โ she sang so passionately and powerfully that it caused the crowd to rise for a standing ovation. Itโs hard to not get the chills.
Kadie Lynnโs mom was brought to tears watching her baby girl perform. The emotion was so intense in the auditorium that even the tween herself appeared misty-eyed at the end of her act.
Then came time to hear what the judges had to say. Was her performance good enough to move to the next round of the competition?
Judge Mel B was the first to offer her praises, saying:
โYouโre like this cute little thing โ and then you start singing and this big, powerful voice comes out of nowhere. You know what I really liked about you, itโs you have like such control over your big voice, technically. I mean, it was a home run for me.โ
The other judges also gushed to Kadie Lynn, but there was something about Simon Cowellโs response that was extra memorable.
โYou know when we make these shows, itโs a bit like weโre mining for talent โ and you dig, and you dig, and you digโฆ And then every so often you find a little diamond. And thatโs what we found today with you.โ
But Simon wasnโt done yet.
After giving more compliments, he concluded:
โI have a feeling, and Iโm rarely wrongโฆthat in a few years time weโre going to look back at this moment and say this is the day we discovered Kadie Lynn.โ
The young country singer was of course given four โyesesโ from the panel of judges. Itโs an emotional scene that demonstrates what these shows are really all about.
