When it comes to official duties, law enforcement officers are required to have their official photos taken for the department’s records.
This isn’t just limited to the human officers; even the K9 officers get their moment in the spotlight.
Typically, these photos feature the K9s alongside their handlers.
However, for one particular dog named Kenobi, the photo session turned out to be a tad different.
Instead of striking a serious pose with his handler, Officer Levi Knach, Kenobi had other plans.
Both Kenobi and Knach are integral members of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Their primary responsibilities? They’re on the lookout for ginseng, venison, and other such items.
But their role doesn’t end there.
They’re often the only barrier preventing animals from falling prey to poachers or ensuring that certain plants aren’t wrongly harvested.
Kenobi isn’t just any ordinary dog.
He possesses a unique skill set that makes him an invaluable asset to the department.
With a sense of smell that’s approximately 40 times stronger than that of humans, he can effortlessly track down offenders, locate contraband, or even find someone hunting for ginseng and other endangered plants in Indiana’s forests.
As Officer Knach proudly states, “Make no mistake — he is a trained working officer and can track people and locate a variety of objects ranging from venison to ginseng.”
Every day, Kenobi and Knach diligently perform their duties.
Before Kenobi could excel in his role, he underwent rigorous obedience training.
This training ensures that police K9s like Kenobi can swiftly and efficiently execute their tasks, following orders to the letter.
But once the uniform comes off, Kenobi’s demeanor changes.
At home, he’s just like any other pet dog, craving attention, hugs, and pets.
And he doesn’t shy away from showering Officer Knach with a barrage of doggie kisses either.
Given Kenobi’s dual personality – serious at work and playful at home – it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he decided to let his guard down during the official photo session.
As Knach sat poised and ready for the photo, Kenobi, perhaps feeling a tad affectionate, began nuzzling up to him.
The result? A series of amazing photos where Kenobi is seen cuddling, and licking, much to the amusement of the photographer.
The photographer, who was probably expecting a standard, serious photo, was left with a delightful problem.
Amidst the playful chaos, he hoped to capture at least one official-looking photo of the duo.
And after some effort, he did manage to get that perfect shot.
These heartwarming photos were later shared on the department’s Facebook page, much to the delight of viewers.
The images not only showcased the deep bond between Kenobi and Knach but also served as a gentle reminder.
They highlighted that beneath the stern exterior of police officers and their K9 counterparts lies a heart full of love and affection.
In essence, these photos tell a story.
