When it comes to wildlife photography, Julian Rad is one of the best. His stunning nature shots help to remind us what is really important in life. It’s the little things. To see the joy on some of the squirrels’ faces in his images when they find a nice berry bush or a particularly big nut is nothing short of amazing. Also, to see how happy a fox is simply just running around in the rain… It’s pretty incredible really.
Julian has an incredible talent for capturing these simple but beautiful moments, and today it’s our honor to share some of them with you as well. In this slideshow, we’ve selected 30 of our favorite Julian Rad wildlife photos for your enjoyment. If you like cute little animals as much as we do, we can almost guarantee these will all put a big smile on your face. This cute little rodent is just trying to get a bite to eat, however, the corn is just a little too high to reach. Julian captures the mouse using all its strength to hang onto the cob and get a nibble. It’s like something straight out of the movie Cliffhanger, that is, if Sylvester Stallone were a mouse.
This is one of Julians most amazing photos. Somehow he manages to get the one fox to peer through the camera at the other fox, just like they are taking pictures of each other. This is wildlife photography at its best.
3. “Hey Mr. Snowman, can I eat your Head?”
First the squirrel builds a fantastic little snowman. However, shortly after, it just can’t resist taking a bite out of the head. It must be awful boring living in the forest in the winter, but luckily, this squirrel is finding plenty of ways to stay busy.
4. “Pssst… there is someone lying in the grass taking pictures of us”
These squirrels are whispering back and forth planning out their next move. While they realize someone is nearby taking photos of them, they also are pretty hungry, and thus they have a big dilemma. Run away, or keep munching on the thistle bush? That is the question.
In this photo, two foxes can be seen play fighting with each other in the grass. While things can get a little rambunctious at times, it’s safe to say that they are definitely having fun. We imagine it must have taken Julian an incredible amount of patience to capture this image.
“I brought you some flowers,” says the furry little guy. “Will you be my valentine?” It’s really a very cute pic and we’re sure this squirrel with definitely make some other squirrel extremely happy one day.
Uh oh. It looks like the play fighting has now turned into a serious brawl. Who will win in this battle of the foxes? It’s quite an incredible moment. Capturing a photo like this is what we call being in the right place at the right time.
8. Just.. a little.. bit….closer
Have you ever stumbled upon that one delicious nut that was just slightly out of reach? You want it so bad but you can’t quite reach it… That is what is happening in this photo. The squirrel really doesn’t want to get wet, but that nut is just so enticing.
“What are you looking at?” the sly Fox says with a scowl on his face. You definitely don’t want to get too close to this guy. Look at the size of those teeth!
This red squirrel has found the perfect place to get a closer look at itself. It sits perched on top of a ring of vines in the most tranquil part of the creek, staring into the water. It acts as a great natural mirror. “So this is what I look like,” the squirrel thinks to itself.
Here’s a great photo of a red fox out enjoying the rain. Even with the inclement weather, the fox still looks so happy and content. Nature really is amazing sometimes.
This acrobatic red squirrel makes a big leap for the dry land on the other side of the stream. It’s pretty incredible how it appears to effortlessly glide through the air like that. It is even carrying a little nut in its mouth at the same time!
13. When someone tells a funny joke
This is either one of the biggest yawns we’ve ever seen or the fox is laughing at a funny joke. It’s hard to tell. If one thing is for sure though, it’s that the photo is stunning.
Check out this happy fox! He is out relaxing in the sun and really enjoying himself it seems. It would be so interesting to know what he is thinking about.
This red squirrel has made a new friend. “Oh.. who are you?” it thinks as it cautiously climbs down the stick to get a closer look and say hello.
These little guys started their own fight club and are having an all-out brawl. Or are they breakdancing? We’re not entirely sure, but either way, it’s a pretty crazy moment Julian was able to capture.
17. Happy Valentine’s Day
Julian posted this photo on Valentine’s day, February 14, 2018, and it’s the perfect photo to represent the holiday. The two foxes look so in love. The male fox goes in for the kiss, and the shy female coyly turns her cheek.
Julian named this photo “Superman” and it’s definitely a great description. The squirrel is literally flying through the air. Really, if you told us this photo came from a DC comic book, we would probably believe you.
This little red squirrel is super thirsty and was even able to find its very own squirrel-sized water fountain. What a lucky guy! Anytime it needs a drink now, it knows exactly where to go.
As the one ground squirrel makes a big leap up in the air to try and grab some berries, the other watches with anticipation. Those berries definitely look delicious. Hopefully, they were able to get a couple.
Another squirrel that knows how to fly! It’s also carrying a giant nut in its mouth. It is very happy about its find. With that nut, it will likely be able to feed the whole family.
This squirrel was happily munching away on a nut when Julian snuck up and surprised it. You can see the look of total shock on the squirrel’s face. It is completely frozen and doesn’t know what to do now.
Here we have another awesome photo of some ground squirrels. These two found a very tasty purple flower to eat. One munches away while the other patiently waits for its turn to get a bite.
24. How would you caption this photo?
“How would you caption this photo?” Julian asks his Instagram audience. That is a good question. Maybe… “In Love With Nature”? The squirrel appears to really be appreciating the beauty of the flowers.
Here is a very cool winter shot that Julian captured. The squirrel is flying through the air in a beautiful winter wonderland and it’s the perfect representation of forest life. Rain, shine, or snow, it doesn’t matter. A squirrel has got to eat!
It turns out there is such thing as a European Hamster. They live in the wild in Eurasia and occupy quite a large area. Their habitat ranges from Belgium all the way to Russia.
We had to add another photo of the European Hamster immediately after the last one because honestly, they are just so cute looking. We couldn’t resist! This one is snacking on some berries.
Okay, this is the last European Hamster photo. We promise. This guy is running full speed ahead, which for a hamster, we imagine is about one or two miles per hour.
These two ground squirrels love the Chinese martial arts. Especially Kung Fu. This is a great photo Julian captured of the duo practicing their sport out in the dirt.
This squirrel really knows what living is all about and it’s not afraid to a take a second out of its busy day to stop and smell the flowers. Sometimes it’s the small things that make all the difference. Honestly, we could all probably learn a thing or two from squirrels.
