Most people celebrate their Christmas by decorating their house with plenty of stockings, Christmas lights, gingerbread houses and men, and wearing anything that’s green, white and red. But it’s always good to remember to commemorate this most magical time of the year with a simple but meaningful carol, including the very familiar and legendary “O Holy Night.”

One of the most well known and beloved Christmas carols.

“O Holy Night” is one of the most well-known Christmas carols in the Christian community. This beautifully serene carol was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 based on the French poem “Midnight, Christians,” which was written by poet Placita Cappeau in 1843. In both versions of the song, it refers to the birth of Jesus as humanity’s redemption.

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

Every noble-hearted Christian looks to celebrate the birth of Christ during this glorious season of the year. This event is so important to Christians as God came down from heaven and became a human being whom we know as Jesus Christ. This is in line with a verse from the Bible as quoted in John 1:14, NIV:

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”

Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the reign of King Herod the Great, was born to the Virgin Mary – who married a man named Joseph, and that his birth was caused by divine intervention. This song is a touching tribute to Jesus’ birth and the redemption of humanity.

A beautifully composed carol such as this deserves to be sung by one who knows how to pack a tune and Josh Groban is a name that most music lovers are familiar with. His flawless singing reminds us of that incredible night when there was no room for Mary and Joseph at the inn so they lay the newborn baby Jesus in a manger. The animals marveled and the shepherds in the pasture hurried to see the baby and rejoice with all.

As the lyrics explain:

. . . stars are brightly shining . . . it is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.
