Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are.

These are perhaps the most well-known lyrics around the world, mostly because they’re taught to children starting from a very young age. It’s just something that’s a part of the worldwide culture and something incredibly recognizable – but this one contestant on Sweden’s Got Talent certainly did his best to give the song an entirely different spin.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star actually isn’t a completely original song, as it was based on a French tune from the eighteenth century.

The popular English lullaby as we know it was written by Jane Taylor, all the way back in the early 19th century. It was first seen in Rhymes for the Nursery in 1806, but it based on the melody “Ah! vous dirai-je, maman” from numerous French composers. Fun fact: Mozart even made twelve different variations of the original French lullaby, making the tune even more widespread than one would originally think.

Of course, you might also think of the song if you’re trying to teach the alphabet to your kids, as the alphabet song perfectly fits in with the tune. Some would even say that the song is popular in multiple solar systems! Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played the world-famous role of Mister Spock in Star Trek, adapted the song to “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Earth” in his music album Spock’s Music from Outer Space.

As you can see, there are numerous variations of the lullaby, but we’re pretty sure that you’ve never heard it like this before.

In the Swedish version of ‘Got Talent’, one contestant started performing the song on the piano but managed to shock the entire audience after just a couple of seconds.

When Johannes Johansson first started playing the piano, the judges were actually quite perplexed, but not for reasons you might think. Johaness performed the song as we all know it, the very simple version of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’.

It’s a good thing that the judges didn’t hit their red buzzers, because the surprise was yet to come.

After the first few recognizable notes, you can tell that Johansson put his entirely own spin on the song, making it more majestic and beautiful. His talented piano skills definitely come to fruition, as the entire performance keeps building up.

Just check those absolutely excellent piano skills! It’s as if the song actually evolved from a simple children’s lullaby and grew up to become a much more mature song.

We’re not exactly sure what the Swedish judges had to say about the whole performance, but their faces definitely say more than a thousand words.

His audition didn’t only make rounds in Sweden, as it was also picked up for the Got Talent Global compilation program. Johansson’s performance was also clearly adored by the entire internet, as he’s gone viral on multiple platforms and has amassed almost 1.4 million views on YouTube.

“This piece summarizes the phases of life: Baby, toddler, teen, adult, grandparent,” one person commented.

“And so a children’s song has evolved into a masterpiece” another YouTuber wrote.

Johansson himself never expected his audition to blow up online, and even commented himself thanking everyone for their support and kind words.

“This is Johannes, the performer in this video. I just wanted to say that it’s so inspiring and motivating to read all comments here, such a nice atmosphere, thank you! <3” the talented musician wrote.
