Everyone deserves a second chance. Even the folks at from NBCโs hit show The Voice think so. Though Joe Maye didnโt get the green light the first time he tried out for The Voice, he wasnโt about to give up.
He was sure he would win his second audition.
This time he knew what to expect, had confidence, and the perfect song, โI Got a Spell On You.โ
Within minutes of Mayeโs blind audition, Christina Aguilera slammed on her buzzer and spun her chair around.
It wasnโt long before her fellow judge Blake Shelton did the same. This did not please Aguilera. That meant she would have to compete with Shelton to coach Maye and she wanted the job.
When his song was over, Maye did a few victory leaps and shouted with glee.
He finally did it, he passed his blind audition. Not only that, but he now had two judges fighting over him.
โI heard it first,โ Aguilera shouted
Judge Pharrell Williams instantly recognized Maye and congratulated him on coming up with a great song choice that better suited him.
To try and sway Maye, Aguilera brought up the fact that Shelton didnโt hit his buzzer the last time Maye auditioned. He claimed that his team was already full.
โListen, Joe, you sang that like you were pissed and you were not going to take no for an answer and it worked,โ said Shelton.
Aguilera explained that it is her favorite song and that she would love to sing it one day with Maye. So, Aguileraโs fellow judges challenged her to do so.
โOh, youโre dead Shelton,โ said Judge Adam Levine.
Aguilera did not step down and the impromptu duet ensued. Maye honestly looked slightly terrified at first but ended up absolutely killing it.
The duet was a passionate back and forth between the two. It was so perfect that you would have thought that it was rehearsed. Honestly, their duet was pretty sick.
โOh my God,โ Maye shouted after it was over, in disbelief of what just went down.
After their jaw dropping duet was over, it was time for Maye to make his decision.
โWho do you pick?โ Levine asked Maye holding Aguilera and Sheltonโs arm up.
It didnโt take long more than a few moments for Maye to make his decision.
โI pick Christina,โ he said almost instantly.
