We all know Costco was created in America. What we may not know though, is that it really exceeded our expectations in Japan.
There are so many items in the Japanese Costcos that we can’t in the American ones, like dried gourmet mushrooms and delicious sashimi salads. Check it out for yourself.
1. Dried gourmet mushrooms
This is one of those items that you don’t know you need until you see it in the store. Then you come across it and you’re like, “Oh yes! I can use this for so many things!”
2. Fancy wraps
These look so fresh and delicious. A perfect grab-and-go option for when you don’t have any time to cook!
3. Sashimi salad
We definitely don’t have sashimi that looks as fresh as this at our American Costcos.

Two gorgeous pink smoothies to go, please! Along with everything else in the cart, obviously.
6. Perfect platters
That creamy cheese looks divine. And those crackers? Yes, please.
7. All of the goods
Delicious brie cheese, Godiva chocolates, and onion gratin soup, just to name a few.
8. Lamb shoulder
What’s more yummy than this tender meat? Great for all kinds of dishes.
9. Fish meat surimi
This is meat ground into a paste. It is good for making things like fake crab!
10. Ultra joy!
That is the name of their dishwashing soap. So cute!
11. Rotisserie chicken
And yes, don’t worry — Costcos in Japan still have rotisserie chicken. A staple ingredient.
12. Jack Daniels aplenty
And yeah, don’t worry. They’ve got boxes of whiskey lined up all over the place.
13. Everything you need for the perfect Japanese dish
Rice, edamame, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, eggs… What more could you need to create the perfect Japanese dish?
14. Baked goods
Some of the tastiest baked goods ever. We’re drooling.
15. Pizza and beer
Some supermarket pizza can be a bit questionable, but this actually looks really fresh. Plus, these toppings look amazing.

The birthday cakes you can get there are just as cute, if not cuter.
21. Enormous stuffed bears
Name one thing that is cuter than these huge stuffed animals. We will wait.

Apparently they are “body pillows.”

These sashimi platters seemingly stretch for miles.

It’s basically a spicy Korean seafood stew. It comes frozen — all you have to do is heat it up and you’ve got a whole dish ready to eat.
28. Strawberry cheesecake
This doesn’t just look like regular strawberry cheesecake though. It looks over-the-top amazing.
29. Chocolate crepes
These are so convenient AND classy! Imagine how put-together you would feel if you had one of these for breakfast in the morning instead of your classic Pop Tart or bowl of Cheerios.
30. Braised pork rice
Tasty and ready to eat!
31. Matcha ice cream
Matcha is making a pretty big wave in America right now. So it is only fair that Costcos here get some matcha ice cream, too. What a treat!
32. Chirashi
If you’re unsure what chirashi is, it is basically sashimi or barbecue eel over rice. And Costco sells huge portions of it on very large platters. Yes, please.
33. Shiitake mushroom crisps
These crunchy bits are great for adding to salads, soups or stews. Adds a nice mushroom flavor and a whole lot of crispyness.
34. Seafood pizza
Because why have a boring, plain pie when you can load it up with shrimp and mussels? We love the risky kinds of pizza.
35. Wine cocktails
Wine cocktails that are already ready to drink. Bottled perfection.
36. Gougeres
If you don’t know, gougeres are cheesy pastries. They are savory heaven.
37. Black truffle sauce
It does not get fancier than this!
38. More sushi platters please
Raw beauty. That’s what that is.
39. Seriously
We mean it. We want more sushi platters. Never enough.

Sure, it can look a little bit intimidating there in the package but when all is said and done, it tastes quite delicious.
41. A huge wood-burning pizza oven
Ah, is that why their pizza looks so good?!
42. Sushi and pizza all day
It’s starting to feel like sushi and pizza are the two main food groups in Japan. A perfect place to live!

Treats you can only get in Costco Japan.

In all different flavors, too!
47. The most glorious cake
We’re not sure exactly what this is but regardless, this cake covered in juicy strawberries and fluffy whipped cream is definitely something we need.
48. Kit Kat
Our beloved candy bar in Japan! And it is a special assortment. It is probably amazing.
49. Can’t get enough of this strawberry cheesecake
Okay, so update. It looks like the main food groups are pizza, sushi, and strawberry cheesecake. We aren’t complaining.
50. Pre-made soups and salads
A super healthy option for when you’re starving but on-the-go! The ingredients look great.
