Thinking back to childhood, there are likely many memories that bring a smile to your face. A Seasoned Skater Decorated With Many Medals
It takes a lot of skill to be able to skate, but the woman in this video makes it look completely effortless as she glides across the ice with beauty and grace. And, there is good reason for that! She is Elizabeth Putnam who is a three-time bronze medalist and Olympic alternate. She has spent a good portion of her life practicing and competing on some of the world’s best rinks. But, where she feels most at home is skating on a frozen lake out in the beauty of nature.
And what a place she found – the breathtaking beauty of the mountains in British Columbia makes a stunning backdrop to showcase her exceptional skating ability. Though the ice isn’t perfectly smooth nor is the outdoor temperature carefully maintained, Elizabeth skates with the passion as if she were competing for a medal. But there could be an element that makes it even better since there really isn’t the pressure to win any competition, she can just embrace the beauty of the moment and the love for the sport she is so passionate about.
Elizabeth is a season skater that is a two time Canadian bronze medalist. She is a native of Toronto, Canada and was born in 1984. She began skating at the age of five after her mother also tried her in ballet and gymnastics. She stayed in both for a few years but it was the figure skating that really stuck. She has skated solo and also began training in pairs at the age of 15. Her career has been decorated with many awards and her love for the sport shows through in her skating.
An Isolated Spot That Can Only Be Reached By Helicopter
The lake that has been chosen to film this stunning video is at an elevation of 2500 feet and is in such an isolated spot it can only be reached by helicopter. The pilot, Bradley Friesen, brings her to the spot and then films from above to capture this uniquely stunning presentation.
Elizabeth says this is one of the highlights of her career even after have the honor of performing in Central Park and unique places around the world. But her love for this particular location was that it was untouched in its raw beauty.
Her Love For Skating And Nature Speak For Itself
Though the performance may look carefully orchestrated she says it really wasn’t planned much ahead of time. Elizabeth didn’t worry about a highly choreographed routine, but just wanted to find her inspiration in the environment around her and let her skating and her love for nature speak for itself.
Though Elizabeth has now retired from competitive skating, this stunning video is proof it hasn’t stopped her from pursing her passion.
