Music is more than an art and a form of enjoyment. For many people, it is a refuge from chaos and confusion, a comforting place that shelters from the world’s ordeals. It doesn’t just allow plenty of room for creativity and self-expression; it also unites.
Meet the One Voice Children’s Choir.
Created for children of all ages to get together and uplift others through music, the choir has formed a community that aims to change lives. Not to be reduced to simply “a singing group composed of talented individuals”, One Voice Children’s Choir has a powerful vision statement:
“Through music, they will inspire, enrich, uplift and serve their global community, while building youth as One Voice.”
To further highlight their vision statement, the choir makes sure to perform only songs that are values oriented. And because they strongly believe in the value of unity, they themselves work together without the typical structure of being grouped according to age.
They embody their vision by performing as one.
With eleven soloists, twenty violinists, and three dancers, the choir is known for their original songs as well as captivating new arrangements of existing songs from other artists.
This is an example of just how amazing they are. Their take on “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe will most definitely tug at your heartstrings.
They didn’t just come up with their own arrangement, either. They created their own original music video.
One Voice Children’s Choir boasts performances for over 125 nations, former U.S. president Barack Obama, and in outdoor settings like the beaches of Normandy for a commemoration of D-Day. Their online presence offers just a glimpse of their impact on the world: over 2.1 million followers on YouTube, over 336 million views, and of course countless positive feedback and consistent growth in the number of followers.
The song featured in this video has a beautiful meaning. MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard explains,
“When my father passed in 1991, he left me with the assurance that he was headed to a better place. For several years following his death, I would find myself writing the phrase ‘I can only imagine’ on anything I could find. That simple phrase would give me peace thinking about what my dad was finally experiencing.”
It talks of the singer’s musings on what it would be like to meet Jesus.
It became a number one hit in Christian music and even made it to the top spot of Top 40 radio. Moreover, it inspired a movie starring Dennis Quaid and highlights the power of keeping the faith, choosing to hope, and father-son reconciliation.
The song means many different things to people but one thing is certain: it encourages positivity and faith, something not many songs offer.
The choir sings the song so beautifully that its lyrics are more striking than ever.
“I can only imagine what it will be like when I walk,by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see when your face is before me
I can only imagine.”
