Life just goes. The minutes turn into hours, hours into days, and days into years. Routine becomes the norm, marring the spontaneity of everyday life. The next thing you know, you’ve been making the bed for 45 straight years without as much as a second thought.

But it’s a new day – time for a change.

Joanne Sterling of Manson, Washington recently broke a 45-year-old routine, disrupting the monotony of a typical morning. In a groundbreaking decision, she ceded bedmaking duties to her husband, Jim – a chance for him to prove his ornamental worth.

Naturally, hilarity ensues.

Making the bed – some view it as a nice little morning challenge, while others see it as a boring, trite, arguably unnecessary burden after groggily waking up in the morning. Pardon me, I started projecting…

Fortunately, Jim’s more chipper than I am.

For the last few weeks, Joanne’s been cataloging her husband’s work in a series of daily photographs.

Jim doesn’t do a poor job by any means. Not at all. But his work does come with some… idiosyncracies.

In a recent Facebook post, Joanne calls it as she sees it,

“After 45 years Jim is in charge of making the bed every morning. I don’t think he knows what to do with the extra pillows 😂”

His pillow placement’s unique, to say the least.

Jim’s not one for convention.

Joanne adds some nuance to the situation, telling Bored Panda,

“Jim was put in charge of making the bed because I have always taken care of everything in the house while he was working. Now that we are retired, it’s time for him to pull his own weight around here!”

Good for you Joanne, you deserve a long break.

Jim’s pillow arrangements take a new form each day, likely stemming from wanting to keep things interesting and possibly the fact that he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.

Other days, they’re stacked neatly in some sort of pillow tower.

Joanne’s enjoyed every moment of her newfound free time. So much so, that she’s posted numerous photos of Jim’s “work” across social media.

Each day’s unlike the previous when it comes to Jim’s bedspreads.

Jim even took a day off to protest in favor of workers’ rights.

Generally, pillows are placed towards the far end of the bed, where you place your head to sleep.

Well, Jim’s been breaking all of the rules. Much like Picasso in his prime.

Cute stuffed animal arrangements have even made their way into the fold.

That’s quite an inviting bed. I suddenly have the urge to nap.

Some of his work’s a little too complex for the untrained eye…

Yes, I believe that’ a caged clown dead center.

Joanne continues to tell Bored Panda,

“I hope it lasts for a while but I don’t know how creative he can get.”

I mean he’s done a great job thus far.

Just look at these flamingoes.

Joanne and Jim have been married for decades. Jim’s always there for Joanne, through thick and thin.

The lovely couple recently took to Facebook for a shared selfie.

They’re adorable.

Life gets boring, especially if you’re fortunate enough to live a long, healthy life. Sometimes, a changeup’s necessary. With the weight of coronavirus still pressing down on us (some states are seeing the highest infection rates ever), it’s especially important to stay mentally active.

Fortunately, Joanne has her loving husband Jim to help keep things interesting.

Honestly Jim, your bed spreading’s pretty solid. The pillow placement on the other hand… might be too abstract for certain palettes.

I know Joanne certainly appreciates your efforts. Keep up the great work!
