Thereโs a quote from the movie The Princess Bride that states โNot even death can stop true love.โ
And one husband and wife from Ontario, Canada, are a real-life testament to the accuracy of this statement.
Missing the love of my life more and more every day. I wish we had more time together but I am so blessed to have so many amazing memories that Iโll never forget. I love you with my whole entire heart.

Jim Ireland had been battling cancer for eight years before he wound up on life support in the intensive care unit at Kingston General Hospital.

His wife Cindy had a heart attack the very next day and was also placed on life support.
The couple was placed in two different hospitals.
โMe and my brother donโt drive so going between Kingston and Brockville was really rough,โ Chris Mininni, their son, told CBC News.
โWe tried to get mom transferred to Kingston but no one could help us.โ

Eventually, Jimโs doctor was able to make it happen.
โI shouldโve realized it wasnโt a good sign but I was so appreciative of what he did,โ Chris said.

Jim ended up pulling out his breathing tube during a bad dream.
He had signed orders not to resuscitate so the tube was not replaced since there was nothing left that could be done for him.

โWe told him that mom was now here,โ Chris told PEOPLE. โHe started freaking out. But when we told him he wasnโt going to make it, he got out a pen and paper and tried to write because he wasnโt able to speak.โ
He wrote the word โMom.โ So the hospital did something that theyโve never done before.
They put two patients, one who was on life support the other who just came off of it, in the same room.
โIt was very risky. But they did it for them. He started bawling and saying thank you by doing the praying motion,โ Chris said of his dad.

Jim was able to clasp his wifeโs hand while she was sedated.
Chris decided he would snap a photo of two of them as it was likely to be one of their last moments together on Earth.
โThe reason I took it was so that when she came off life-support, she could see that Dad was right there with her,โ Chris told CBC News.
โIf thereโs one definition of my dad, itโs that he was a proud husband and proud dad.โ
The first thing Cindy asked when she woke up a few days later was whether her husband passed away. She found comfort knowing that she had a chance to be with her husband one more time before he passed away.
They had been married for 24 years and were inseparable during that time.

Chris ended up posting the photo on Reddit where many people left kind comments which brought joy to this motherโs heart.
โI want people to see how much love they had for each other,โ he told People. โMy parents got to be together until the end. We should all be so lucky.โ
