Few movies have attracted the sheer number of people and love that Hunger Games has. While people loved the movies, the book-based fandom has been alive and well for some time now.
As far as adaptations go, Hunger Games did pretty well and only had to adapt a few major things. There have been some pretty egregious adaptations of books in the past, so the fandom for Hunger Games wasnโt all that upset about it.
Still, there are some differences that astute readers might have been able to pick out. Here are 20 of our favorites!
Peeta with a leg
Peeta is in all of the books and movies, but something happened in the 74th Hunger Games that wasnโt adapted to the film โ he lost a leg!

Peeta without a leg
In the books, he walked around on a prosthetic but in the movies, he never even lost a dear limb. It wasnโt too big of a deal, however.

President Snowโs features
President Snow is played by Donald Sutherland in the films and, letโs be honest, he has serious hot-grandpa vibes. In the books, things werenโt so steamy.

President Snowโs snakelike-features
In the book, he was described as being a small and thin man with paper-white hair. The movies show a bigger, more creamy-haired individual. In the books, he also had a very strange mouth to fix the sores he got from poisoning himself.

The greatest showman
Caesar Flickerman is the โcasterโ for the Hunger Games that everyone watches. In the movies, heโs pretty extravagant but nothing different than the others around him.

The eternal showman
In the books, however, Caesar is described as an eternally plastic face under a coat of white makeup. He always has the same hairstyle, he just changes its color for every single Game. Heโs also undergone surgery to keep him looking young.

Handsome Haymitch
Woody Harrelson played Haymitch in the films and he did a great job. The way he looked wasnโt exactly true to how a real lifelong alcoholic would have looked or how he was described in the book.

Not so handsome Haymitch
Imagine a shorter, fatter, and had dark, curly hair. So, ya, not exactly the Woody vibes that we got.

Steely-eyed Alma
President Alma from District 13 was a powerful leader that could pass as an out-of-touch human who still wanted the best for others in the movies.

Steely-heart Alma
In the books, she was so unempathetic she was almost robotic. Katniss also thought that her gray look was fake in order to inspire a false sense of wisdom.

Johanna Mason: Side-hustle lumberjack
Johanna Mason was the winner of the 71st games and โstabbedโ Katniss to get out the tracking device that was buried in her skin. In the movies she was clearly sophisticated and deadly but much too refined for a real-life lumberjack.

Full-time Lumberjack
In the book, she was a spiky-haired logger who pretended to be meek (although she was a killer). Also, she was constantly naked for some reason.

Throat ripper
Enobaria had a move where she ripped peopleโs throats out to kill them. It was how she liked to finish her kills to create an image and she even had her teeth filed to points to make sure nobody forgot.

Throat ripper (in gold)
Basically the same thing but her teeth were pointy AND gold.

Shorty Thresh
Thresh was the kind of guy who occasionally indulged in a protein shake after working out โ in the movies at least. The books are a bit different.

Ox-man Thresh
In the books, Thresh was 6 foot 6 and built like an ox. He was the largest contestant and the movies really didnโt do that well with showing just how big he was.

Mutated animals
The Mutts (mutated animals) in the movies were cool, but they were just run-of-the-mill monsters. The books took it up a notch.

Mutated tributes
The books show that the Mutts that Snow cooked up had bits of DNA from the other tributes. They had all kinds of terrifying Mutts and some even looked like their original DNA donor.

A little more bite
Mags, an older winner, was played by Lynn Cohen in the movie. She was silent (an accurate tidbit), but she had teeth!

A little gummy
Mags in the books didnโt have any teeth! Maybe she could have borrowed some from the Golden Vampire to do some throat-ripping herself.

Like all book adaptations, the movies arenโt going to be exactly accurate when they come out. Still, we think Hunger Games was decent, even if we get to have a bit of fun nitpicking here and there. Which things from the movies did they not include that you think they should have?
