When this San Francisco man was attacked by a burglar entering his garage, he jumped into action and fought back.

Criminals usually target houses that they believe to be empty, but every now and then someone is home. Even for those who are home, they sometimes don’t realize there has been an invasion until after the fact.

An estimated 3.7 million household burglaries occur across the United States every year. And of those, 7% of victims experience some form of violence.

San Francisco is considered to be a safe city, and California has a low crime rate compared to many states.

I think most can agree that if they knew there was an intruder in their home, they would be inclined to hide or run away.

At least I know I would be. And it’s what we often see in the movies!

But not this brave man. 41-year-old Bill Oxidean jumped into action and confronted the intruder, who was armed with a knife, gun, and was wearing a grey hoodie to hide his identity.

Luckily, the security cameras in and outside of the garage caught the entire altercation on video.

In it, we see Bill Oxidean first get attacked with a knife, which he kicks out of the way before being head locked, and pulled out of view of the cameras by the intruder.

When they come back into frame, the two fall to the floor, with Bill on top and seeming to over-power the invader.

They wrestle back and forth on the ground, knocking over a wooden divider that has been stored in the garage.

The once-hooded man loses his hat and his hood, revealing his face to the cameras.

The most harrowing and dangerous part of the fight comes as the homeowner attempts to pry the gun from the intruder’s hands.

It seems that a shot could go off at any moment, and it’s difficult to tell what direction the gun is facing. But he’s determined to disarm the man!

The victim prevails, pulling the gun away and running into the street to get away. But the burglar comes running after him, so the victim points the gun in his direction, which finally causes him to flee the scene.

The victim had just been minding his own business and just bringing his garbage bins back inside when he was attacked.

I guess you can never be ready for these situations. But it must have been surreal to go from doing something so mundane one minute, to being in an altercation involving a weapon the next.

Bill Oxidean is a father of two, enjoys remote control boating, and lives in San Francisco. His kids must be so proud of their heroic father!

While the suspect’s face was visible on the camera footage, San Francisco police weren’t able to identify him.

The police posted the video to YouTube and asked people to come forward if they had any information and could identify the intruder. It’s crazy how social media can be of such help these days!

The attack took place back in 2015, and it’s unclear if police were ever able to catch the man.

Fortunately, what’s most important is that Bill and his family are safe.
