Hip-hop dancers are known for their baggy clothes and freestyle way of grooving to the beat of hip-hop music. They interpret their dance skills through popping, locking and even break dancing! With these dance styles, it is quite hard to imagine these funky hip-hop dancers performing a traditional dance.
But, professional hip-hop dancers Joshua Allen and Stephen “Twitch” Boss proved that they can do more than just popping and locking. They can dance in traditional Russian style, too!
In the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance, the two dancers defied expectations when they decided to perform Trepak, a Russian dance style that is known for its quick and intricate footwork.
In their interview, both dancers were excited about the complexity of their new challenge. The dynamics of their routine is so far from hip-hop and the movements seem to be non-stop. They were positive that their clash on the dance floor will be nothing but epic!
Joshua was dancing so hard he even had one shoe broken during the rehearsals. The heat is definitely on in this dance battle and people were totally in for a surprise. They were not the top two contenders for the show for nothing after all.
The dancers were determined to show the world that they can outdo each other in this traditional dance and, boy, were they amazing! The room erupted in cheers the moment they entered the stage in their Russian costumes. Everyone in the audience were cheering for them!
Both hip-hop dancers shocked the audience when they began their number with high kicks and graceful jumps like that of ballet dancers. They were holding each other’s hands and executing stunts like they were doing this kinds of routine all their lives. It was a truly refreshing sight, and something nobody expected!
They also did fancy yet difficult twirls that would totally give ballet dancers a run for their money! They were certainly great hip-hop dancers, but who knew these men could be graceful in Trepak, too? Watching them will surely leave you wanting for more!
Dancing separately, these men also proved that the audience has seen nothing yet. With every beat of the classical music, Joshua Allen continuously wowed his audience with high leaps that made him look like his feet had springs on them. He was practically flying! He even twirled and twirled like he was some professional ballerina.
Of course, Twitch was not going to be outshined. He showcased an amazing footwork routine that didn’t look easy at all! He was equally fabulous.
After their solo performances, both danced with matching moves that absolutely amused the crowd. Their showmanship was great and everyone is totally engaged in their amazing routine. They even had lifting and jaw-dropping stunts that left their audience in wild cheers. Truly, these talented men deserved their spot in top of the competition.
The judges gave their performance a standing ovation and only had the best things to say about the dancers’ performance. Words were not enough to describe their amazement, and Joshua and Twitch were very proud of what they did.
The fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance concluded with Joshua Allen as the grand winner and with Twitch as his runner-up.
