Dads are the best. But this dad in particular may take the cake.
He not only took his child to dance lessons, but he learned all the dance moves along with her. And not only that, he put on a silly chicken costume and performed in front of real people, and let someone record it.
Sorry Simon Holland, this has to be the ultimate dad joke – it cannot be topped.
For some context (though I’m not sure it needs it – this video’s amazingness speaks for itself), this routine is a classic Pas de Quatre.
Pas de Quatre is a french term that translates directly to “step for four” but can be more usefully translated to “a dance for four people”.
It’s most famous for it’s role in Swan Lake, where this section of the choreography is known as “the dance of the four little swans”.
Pas de Quatre certainly can be translated a multitude of ways! Technically, it could also mean “not of four”, but we can safely assume it’s probably never that one when you hear it.
A Pas de Quatre is extremely challenging because it requires all the dancer to move perfectly in sync and in such close proximity to each other. It requires the dancers to be of similar height and skill level, and takes a lot of practice before anyone is ready to perform.
SO, the fact that this dad was ready to pull off a whole Pas de Quatre… is pretty rock n’ roll.
We can only assume that one of the four girls that was supposed to be on stage fell ill, or chickened out at the last minute.
So, dad to the rescue, leapt into action, jumped into his chicken suit with a tutu which doubles as a super-hero costume, and tied up his ballet slippers.
To everyone’s surprise, he’s actually on point (figuratively, but also literally).
Not every move is totally in sync with his three little swans, but he’s certainly doing his best.
Julius Reisinger, the man who choreographed Swan Lake in 1894, would be proud. He’s probably also a dad.
The girls are doing an amazing job and seem to be having a great time. Most young women at that age would be mortified. I can hear exactly how I sounded when speaking to my father clearly…
“Daaaaad, stop embarrassing me!”
But not these girls! They dance proudly alongside him – a true cool dad.
He has won parenting. Absolutely iconic.
At the end of the performance the girls leave the stage, but he stays behind and does a little chicken dance before calling them back out. He’s really leaning into his role!
Their teachers come up to the stage and present the girls with some bouquets.. as well as what looks like a small easter egg basket to the chicken dad.
1.5 million viewers have watched this beautiful rendition of Swan Lake, which shall now be forever known as Swan Chicken.
We really don’t deserve dads! May this man continue to be this cool, and may he inspire more cool dads to dress up in chicken costumes or do whatever is required of them to be an epic parent.
