Try to think back… what did you learn in high school? How to solve for “x”, that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, maybe a little Spanish.
“Donde esta el baƱo?”
You may have even taken some mandatory square dancing or ballroom dance lessons. I remember having to do that in middle school, and being taught by a teacher who seemed to hate it even more than we did.
But just imagine if you’d had enthusiastic teachers, and the opportunity to learn how to do something cool! Something actually rad.
Well that was the case for some incredibly lucky and talented teens in West Covina, California. They must have been blessed with a teacher who loved to dance and wanted to share that with their students.
Because the dance that these students learned is like nothing else ever seen on a high school basketball court before.
A beaming group of young dancers step onto their school’s basketball court, wearing matching track suits, ready to perform for their peers.
At first, it seems like the camera phone-quality recording will be a regular school performance. And we see the dancers take their positions.
The beat drops and the students all explode into a badass hip-hop dance routine.
One girl walks down the centre of an aisle formed by the other dancers, stealing the spotlight for a moment and leading the routine.
She exudes confidence and has some very wild facial expressions!
It’s easy to see why she’s been chosen to be featured.
A mashup of early-millennium hits guides the dancers through an incredibly synchronized and on-point routine. It’s unbelievable how precisely the students make every move.
They look just like a professional dance crew!
Poppin’, lockin’, and droppin’ game on point.
A couple other students take turns in the spotlight at the head of the crew, showing off their coolest moves.
The crowd goes absolutely wild when three members from the talented troop pull off an epic flip combo, stick the landing, and keep dancing like it’s nothing.
These dancers are crazy talented!
And perhaps the highlight of the show is the impressively choreographed two-person over the shoulder flip.
It’s so amazing that some people had to watch it more than once.
So, I’m not alone!
I’ve lost count of how many times I replayed it. I wish I looked that cool when I was 16!
The video now has over a million views… and not just from impressed people within the bounds of the school district!
Dope choreo indeed! Whoever put this routine together gave the kids the confidence to go out and absolutely crush it! You don’t often see the same among gym-class square dancers.
If they haven’t received one already… someone get this teacher a raise! We need more inspiration like this in our education systems.
They all seem so proud of what they’ve just accomplished, and we can be sure that their talent will open up so many doors for them.
See these amazing youngsters crush their performance by watching the video below!
