If there’s one thing that perfectly fits with the “Love them or hate them” saying, it has got to be Crocs. The remarkable shoes were released back in 2002 and were marketed as lightweight anti-slip rubber footwear in a number of different and vibrant colors.
Suffice to say, Crocs have built up quite the infamous reputation since. It’s just one of the things that people love to hate because of the design. However, many won’t deny that Crocs are comfortable, and some people even proudly wear them on their feet.
The classic ‘clog’ design, for example, has proven to be a massive worldwide success and dozens of different colors and variants have been released ever since.
The shoe company has now taken it one step further with the introduction of high-heeled Crocs.
As you can probably imagine, the new shoes have been met with a mixed response.
At the moment, you can purchase the heeled women’s sandals in two colors: completely black as well as a ‘platinum’ color. They cost around $55 a pair, and some stores have even sold out their supply.
“Get all the fashion without sacrificing the comfort. Dress them up or down, and enjoy wherever the day takes you!” the shoe brand proudly writes on its website.
It looks like they are once again focusing on comfort instead of design, and we can’t really blame them for not changing a winning formula.
The unique shoes – fully known as the Crocs Women’s Cyprus V Heels – have been released in a number of territories a while ago but it seems they’ve only recently become popular. It’s pretty tough to find a pair now for normal prices, although most retailers are expecting new shipments to keep up with demand. However, if you really would like to get your hands on a pair right now, it’s possible to import them.
If you’re lucky, you can even find a couple of rare high-heeled crocs in other colors than black or white.
For example, Amazon UK is expecting a new shipment of the high-heeled Crocs soon, but not everyone is looking forward to them hitting the fashion market.
“There are so many sad things going on in the world right now. We didn’t need to add high heel crocs to the list,” one person posted on Twitter.
“Today I discovered that these nightmares exist. High heel crocs everybody,” user Loaded_Potato tweeted.
“No! No! No! Even the flat croc is disgusting and now they are glaming it up, why?” John Hatch said.
“Fake news because no one would wear these,” Kristy Johnson posted.”
“Really for a hunk of plastic, that’s a lot of money,” Tina Stuk thought.
However, there are also plenty of people who wouldn’t mind having a pair in their closet.
“I want those high-heel crocs, is that bad,” one fan wondered.
“I really like these,” one person wrote in an Amazon review. Very comfortable shoes that you can genuinely wear all night long. Friend and family are always amazed when I say these are high-ish heeled Crocs. I know 3 people so far who have purchased them after I mentioned them too. The shape of the heel adds additional support. This is the same Croc style material as the main products which they sell.”
Although there are more negative than positive reactions, market experts state that the sudden popularity of the high-heeled crocs is definitely a good thing, both for the brand and for general awareness that comfort should be equally as important as design.
“I honestly think the timing is just right,” Mintel senior research analyst Alexis DeSalva told The Washington Post. “Casual shoes and a priority on comfort in general have definitely grown a lot over the last few years. It’s never been more acceptable to prioritize comfort in your footwear than now.”
One thing is for sure: whether you people like them or not, the high-heeled crocs definitely manage to attract a ton of attention. If you’re interested in a pair, you can find them at Amazon.
