Kelly Clarkson was moved to tears when Henry Winkler guested in her show.
I bet mothers who go through the same thing as Kelly will also shed a tear.
Raising children is never easy, especially when youโre a single parent.
But what could be more challenging than that?
In that episode, Kelly opened up about the struggles of her daughter, River Rose.
She said that her eight-year-old daughter has dyslexia.
Parents of a child with special needs could relate to her since they also struggle to deal with the challenges surrounding their childโs disability.
It would take a lot of family support and proper medical attention to get through it.
Dyslexia is more common than you think; even Kelly was surprised about that.
Around 70-80% of the population have poor reading skills and most likely have dyslexia, and one out of five school children has a language-based learning disability, often due to dyslexia.
For Kelly, it was a surprise that it was that common and somehow a relief that she was not alone.
Henry Winkler is one of those who have dyslexia that proved one could overcome it.
The award-winning actor struggled in school for his poor academic performance but later excelled in college when he took up a theater degree.
It was only when he got the role and worked for the series Happy Days that he was diagnosed as dyslexic.
But this didnโt stop him from excelling further.
Aside from being an actor and comedian, he is also a producer, director, and author of multiple books, including four childrenโs books series and his latest work, his biography.
This is why Henryโs words of advice meant a lot to Kelly Clarkson.
She shared how she was amazed by his works despite being dyslexic.
She told Henry that her daughter was one, too, and that she was being bullied in school because she didnโt know how to read.
Further, she shared that the school talked about dyslexia awareness and mentioned all the other famous people who had dyslexia, and that empowered her daughter.
To which Henry exclaimed, โSheโs in the tribe!โ
He must have felt the need to push River Rose further forward and not get disheartened.
He took a moment to look at the camera and address her, saying:
โRiver, how you learn has got nothing to do with how brilliant you are.โ
That sent Kelly Clarkson to tears.
Because this is true, Kelly โ like other mothers who might have felt that the world has bullied their children with dyslexia โ felt such comfort in Henryโs words.
It meant a lot for her to hear that from someone who overcame the disability and became successful.
There are many ways to aid children with dyslexia in overcoming their condition.
Parents can find schools that can accommodate them better or are more understanding of their condition.
They can also do some exercises and activities at home to help them have alternative means of learning, like reading books to them aloud, listening to audiobooks, typing words (instead of writing), and looking for sensory and decoding activities.
