We’re all familiar with Caught in Providence by now.
This viral courtroom channel on YouTube features Judge Frank Caprio and his unique way of serving justice to violators. He does so with compassion.
It was just another day in the courtroom with Jo-Anne Ash.
Jo-Anne came in and asked about all five violations given to her that she knew nothing about. Judge Caprio, then, reminded her that they were all red-light violations.
This woman didn’t want to waste anybody’s time, so she pleaded guilty to the charges.
However, as Judge Caprio’s signature in his courtroom, he serves everyone justice in the most humane way possible. He doesn’t want the woman just to pay and leave. Instead, he insisted on reviewing the tapes, as they always do with traffic violations.
They tried to check the first two violations in Allens Avenue.
Here, Judge Caprio explained that there were two solid lines before the traffic light in this particular traffic light. He said that he would dismiss violations for those who were already past the first line before the light went red.
Clearly, it was just a split-second between that and when Jo-Anne went past another red light.
Luckily for Jo-Anne, those violations were dismissed, thanks to Judge Caprio who was as considerate as usual. At this point, he asked Jo-Anne if she wanted to continue viewing the tapes. She now agreed to do so after the first two were dismissed.
They view the third video, still at the exact location.
This time, Jo-Anne violated the law, as seen in the video that she drove past the red light. It was so close, though. She admitted to her fault, the humble woman that she was.
It was supposed to end there with a fine of $170.
Jo-Anne was shocked at how much money she owes but didn’t argue any further. The judge asked her if she needed time to pay for it, which she admitted that she would need a month to pay for it.
However, the judge had something else in mind.
He said he wants to continue viewing the tapes to make sure that they are rightfully charging her with these violations.
They continued viewing the remaining tapes at Valley Street.
The first instance was 0.3 seconds, while the other one is at 0.5 seconds. He gave him a break on the first instance since it’s just one-tenth of a second more than they’re allowed to get past the red light. The second one, however, is a clear violation.
After reviewing all the tapes, Jo-Anne just has to pay $85.
She was okay with it and promised to pay it in a week. But the dear old judge was not done with giving her a break. He insisted that he will give her a month to pay for it. She accepted the kind reprieve.
But before she left, Judge Caprio asked her one more question:
“When you first came here, I said, ‘Do you wanna see them (the tapes)?’ and you said, ‘I don’t wanna see them. I’m guilty.’ I wanna ask you again… Do you wanna see them?”
This sent the courtroom laughing, and which Jo-Anne finally replied, “Yes, from now on, I would want to see them.”
