10 percent sound, 10 percent style, 10 percent skills, 20 percent synchronicity, and 50 percent of pure awesomeness! These dancers showcased 100 percent of their talents by doing a body percussion rhythm activity.

The TTU Dance Department displayed their mastery of the body percussion exercise with the song Cousin Sally Brown by Flynn Cohen.

This is a movie clip from the movie Pitch Perfect when Beca played by an actress named Anna Kendrick performed her very own song called “When I’m Gone” using her hands and a cup. Ms. Kendrick’s song became widely popular because of the movie and was performed as a form of musical exercise by schools and musicians.

It was later then called “the cups song.” There are also some videos on youtube using the song and have a different version when it comes to how they performed the cups routine.

The clip we are about to witness has a similarity with the cups song and how it is performed but it is much better.

Students of the TTU Dance Department started the routine by sitting around in a circle. Everybody gathered around until the music started, then they began the exercise.

The participants started by tapping their hands to their leg, clapping their hands, and tapping the other person on each side.

Next level

The dancers take it up a notch as they used tapped and clapped their hands much faster and now making use of their chest as a percussion instrument.

Now they involved their both feet by slightly tapping it on the ground while their hands are clapping their upper body parts. So far the team’s rhythm is perfect and their synchronicity is on a higher level.

Ending it with a bang

Everything went so fine while sitting down so they decided to up it one more level by standing up to do some work. The TTU Dance Department did some line dancing and a cowboy boogie as part of their routine it really did fit the music they chose.

Then they proceeded to do what children love to do. The group did something like a ring around the Rosie type of dance.

And they ended the exercise with a hand-clapping game.

After all the routines, they paused for a moment and joyfully rejoiced. They shouted like their spirits where lifted out from their bodies. It was fun watching them do the exercise but what it’s in for them who did it?

Fun and easy exercise

Before starting any activity like doing heavy exercises, playing sports, or before lifting weights on the gym our mind and body needs to be warmed up.

Doing an exercise like this one is a fun way to warming up or breaking the ice. It enhances your sense of focus and it also stretches the sleeping muscles in your body.

Body percussion rhythm activities bring unity in a group by harmonizing with each other by means of music and actions.
