As far as timeless movies with dances go, it would be pretty hard to top Footloose. There’s Dirty Dancing, Grease, and other notable films but when it comes to standing the test of time and as a go to choice for most people who will be performing, Footloose is usually the default.
Perhaps it’s because of its carefree solo attitude and the spirit that the song itself brings. Kenny Loggins was able to capture the vibrant character of Ren McCormack as played by Kevin Bacon.
Footloose has been dancing its way in to many hearts since 1984.
Take the American Dance Training Camp or also known as ADTC. This tight-knit all girls community believes that strong and inspired girls should do what they love by connecting with their authentic self. They empower girls away from the false spotlight of social media thus allowing them to discover themselves and break free.
Doesn’t that sound like the very point of Footloose? Let’s dance!
These girls wouldn’t care about a “no dancing” law either.
Dressed very comfortably, one young lady takes center stage and just like Bacon’s “Ren”, she starts off the dance. Air guitar in hand and rocking her long hair around, she exudes a confidence so natural that seems to radiate outwards to her dance team.
The others, lined up on the sides, quickly join in and that familiar guitar riff and drum beat seem to power the others. They sway and stomp to the melody. Their movements are strong and vivacious which is exactly what the ADTC is about.
No preaching Reverend from Bomont would dare go against the ADTC.
It’s a jazz dance unlike any other. There is so much energy and they don’t shy away from using and extending every single part of their bodies. That’s the spirit of Ren McCormack, girls!
Jazz dance is a performance dance technique and she is definitely performing.
Its origins can be traced back to African ritual and celebratory dancing in the seventeenth century and emerged as a popular style in the US around the early twentieth century. Talk about standing the test of time. But aren’t all the best forms of art the ones that have endured for centuries?
Luckily for Kenny Loggins, he was selected to write and sing the song of the same name from the film and we are all thankful for it. In itself, it has also stood the test of time and anyone who truly enjoys music will sing along to “Footloose”. The lyrics speak of breaking free and just letting loose as well.
The arrangements of the guitars, drums, and vocals is Kenny with all his emotions embodying the story of the movie.
No one dances to Footloose without singing along either. We bet these girls were the same.

What Footloose dance would be complete without carefree jumps?
That’s exactly what these girls do. They just let loose and take the stage with jumping splits, flips, and acrobatic steps. They are just phenomenal to watch! It’s one of those moments that even for non-dancers, will get them moving in their seats. Please, Louise!
