Taking photos on your wedding day is something that most people remember forever.
However, for Ontario, Canada, newlyweds Clayton and Brittany Cook, their wedding photos will be more memorable than most. That’s because Clayton saved a child’s life while the photos were being taken.
The new couple started off posing for pictures together. They look lovely – happy and clearly in love. But then Clayton took a break from the camera to let Brittany have her time in the spotlight and have some individual pictures taken of her.
While they had been taking pictures together, both had noticed three young children behind them on a small bridge.
They were pointing to the bride and groom, obviously trying to take part in the wedding festivities. Clayton said he had a weird feeling about the situation, so he was keeping an especially close eye on the kids.
It’s a good thing Clayton was watching the kids because as soon as he looked their way, he only saw two kids – one fewer than was there before. It soon became clear that one of the other children had pushed one of the little boys off the bridge into the water below.
Since the boy was so young, he was having a hard time swimming.
When Clayton looked down into the water, he saw the boy struggling to keep his head above water. Without even thinking, Clayton knew what he had to do. He jumped into the water, tux and all, to save the boy.
On the sidelines, Brittany thought that Clayton was playing a joke on her – albeit a bad one – during the photo session. But as soon as she saw the reason why he jumped in, she soon because glad that he was able to rescue the little boy from drowning.
Clayton yelled, “Grab my hand, grab my hand,” to the little boy, who then clung to him as he was rescued from the water. Clayton told BBC News that he “plucked him out, and he was OK.”
Darren Hatt, the photographer who was responsible for taking the couple’s wedding pictures, was there to capture the whole thing.
He quickly snapped some shots of Cook saving the child and shared the shots on social media. The story has since blown up. Both Clayton and Brittany as well as the photographer have been interviewed and have shared their story with numerous media outlets. People are loving what Clayton did and can’t stop congratulating him for rescuing the child’s life.
In a time of so much hate and division, it’s beautiful seeing somebody make a sacrifice on his special day to save the life of a child. Because of Clayton’s vigilance and compassion, he turned what could have been a horrible ordeal into a situation that he, his wife, and the little boy will remember forever.
For Brittany, this was just one more thing to love about her husband.
Although she knew he was sweet and selfless before, this particular act made her fall even more in love with Clayton. She even told media outlets that he was her hero.
One thing is for sure: The internet is wishing Clayton and Brittany Cook an extra-happy marriage filled with love. After all, they truly seem to deserve it.
