We all love grandparents donโt we? They have a tendency to be the cutest people in the room besides maybe babies.
These grandparents, Clive Gordes and his wife, Fay, especially, since theyโre relieving their quarantine boredom in the best way.
Theyโre breaking out their best country dance moves!
Theyโre dancing to Dwight Yoakamโs These Arms, and it looks like they have spent their time wisely coordinating some dance moves!
They are laughing and smiling a lot through the video so one thing is very clear:

Dwight Yoakam is a Kentucky-born country musician from the 1980s. Heโs still well loved and widly celebrated today, not to mention heโs released an album as recently as 2016!
The song itself is from his album A Long Way Home, released in โ98. Yoakam has gone platinum and gold on his albums multiple times and has won myriad awards in country music.
So you could say heโs pretty good!
Still, this didnโt stop 1980s Nashville from thinking a young Yoakam wasnโt marketable enough in the new โurban cowboyโ setting of country music. He was too raw, too honky tonk, too hillbilly.
Nashville made the wrong call with Yoakam, obviously. Shoulda signed the kid!
Thankfully, these rejections enabled Yoakam to play by his own rules and mess around with country as we know it, while still returning it to its rural roots and proving Nashville wrong!
Still, Yoakam had to leave Nashville if it meant making it big, since they were so focussed on the widely dreaded pop-country that very few people actually enjoy. I get appealing to a niche market but likeโฆ Cโmon guys, what happened there?
Yoakam moved to LA to find a better audience for his music and ended up playing in the same bars and clubs as a lot of punk bands, where the unlikely, niche audiences of โcowpunksโ followed his budding career and helped propel him to where he is today!
On this topic of punkies and rockers loving his music, Allmusic writes:
โAppropriately, his core audience was composed mainly of roots rock and rock & roll fans, not the mainstream country audience. Nevertheless, he was frequently able to chart in the country Top Ten, and he remained one of the most respected and adventurous recording country artists well into the โ90s.โ
It makes you wonder what kinds of scenes these two grandparents were visiting in their haydays! Although, judging by the moves theyโre bustinโ out and the fun theyโre having, I might argue that their hayday is here and now!
