If you ask most 90-year-olds what they want for their birthday, they’ll probably tell you they want a nap. Heck, I know 40-year-olds who would tell you that! But not Grandma Vera.
For Grandma Vera’s 90th birthday, Grandma Vera wanted an audience to entertain and rock out with.
The Old Country and Gospel musician decided to perform one of Patsy Cline’s most famous songs, “I Fall to Pieces” for a group of people at her 90th birthday party.
Cline first released the single in 1961 and featured it on her album “Showcase” which was released that same year. “I Fall to Pieces” was her first number one hit on the Country charts and her second hit single on the Pop charts.
The song was written by Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard and ended up being one of Cline’s most recognizable songs, as well as a classic Country music tune.
However, Grandma Vera, in true Grandma Vera fashion, changed up the lyrics and did it in her own hilarious way.
The performance was caught on video and ended up going viral with more than 9 million views!
“Does anybody remember Patsy Cline and ‘I Fall To Pieces?'” she asks her audience in the video. “Well, I rewrote it and I dedicated it to seniors and it’s ‘We Fall To Pieces.’ And if any of you young people think it’s not true, I have news for you!”
She had the entire room roaring with laughter after that line before she begins to flawlessly play her guitar.
“We fall to pieces just when it’s time to have fun,” her song begins, making people giggle even more. “We fall to pieces. From all our lab work that we’ve done.”
Though some of the lyrics might be a little woeful to some they are absolutely hysterical.
And laughter, after all, is the best medicine for treating what life throws at you. And if anyone knows that, it’s a 90-year-old!
“We go out and buy a brand new RV,” she sings. “Just so that we can see this country. And we scrimp and we save for the golden years. Now they’re here and we fall to pieces.”
She goes on to discuss the additional adversity of aging like bending down and not being able to get up.
She has a remarkable sense of humor and way of looking at life and her performance has brought joy to millions of people on social media.
