With over half of America saying they would consider living in a tint home, it would seem this is one trend that will be sticking around. Even the pandemic has not hurt the dream of some to live in a house that seldom is larger than 500 square feet.

Alternative lifestyle blog “Tiny House Giant Journey” talks about the ups and downs of owning a tiny house, interviews tiny house owners across America, and explores why the love of tiny homes persists, even in the current climate of social distancing and working from home.

In one recent blog post, blogger Jenna Spesard talked with the owner of a whimsical tiny house that looks like it came right out of a fairytale. The home’s owner, Bernadette, has a love of gothic architecture and wanted something with a unique look and design.

Called the Pinafore, the home is located in Southern Maryland.

There Bernadette lives with her mini-Australian shepherd, Alice. The home was built for Bernadette by Abel from the world-famous tiny home design and construction company Zyl Vardos.

Known for his whimsical house designs and curved roofs, Abel did not disappoint when it came to Bernadette’s home. One of the best aspects of Bernadette’s home is the ample storage space, which is more than a typical tiny home.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Bernadette tries to keep the clutter at a minimum.

At only 172 square feet (not counting the loft), the Pinafore is the perfect size for Bernadette and her canine companion. One noticeable feature of the home, and one that Abel is especially known for, is the round window found on the ground level.

One of the main storage areas of the home is found under the stairs, with little storage cubbyholes located under each riser of the staircase heading into the loft. There is additional storage in a large closet located under the top of the stairs as they enter the loft above.

The Pinafore boasts ample counter space in the kitchen, giving her plenty of room to prepare meals.

The kitchen also has a four-burner stove with an oven for baking, which Bernadette loves to do, and easy to access storage under her countertops.

She can also use the counter space as a work area during the winter and fall when she works primarily in her tiny home. In the spring and summer, she moves her computer to her studio giving her even more room in her tiny kitchen to do other things.

The home also has plenty of headspace.

At 5’7” tall, the home has ample overhead space for Bernadette to move around, making the tiny home perfect for her and her lifestyle. Even the loft has a high ceiling for a tiny home, giving Bernadette and Alice plenty of room to maneuver when it is time for bed.
