Every parent just wants the best for their kids, and part of that means guiding them in the right direction so they donโt end up making the same mistakes we did when growing up. Itโs especially true when it comes to relationships.
Recently, a video of a little girl arguing with her dad over her future dating life went viral for that exact reason.
John Tierney and his four-year-old daughter Grace were driving along when all of a sudden, the youngster blurted out something shocking โ she wanted to start dating. The comical video of their argument has since been viewed over 30 million times, and if you are a parent, itโs something you definitely have to check out for yourself. Youโll completely understand the dadโs point of view.
The toddler said she wanted a boyfriend and Tierney obviously told her she wasnโt allowed โ ever.
Thatโs when their hilarious debate began.
โDaddy, Iโll get a boyfriend if I want to get a boyfriend,โ says Grace.
The dadโs comeback to his daughterโs statement is pretty epic.
โDaddy will break his legs,โ Tierney responds.
His deadpan humor is something that every parent can appreciate. Itโs very common that a father would be hesitant to let his little girl go out into the world and start meeting men.
Normally, this sort of discussion happens when a young girl reaches her teenage years though.
At the age of four, Grace is way ahead of schedule.
โNo! Dad,โ Grace exclaims.
Tierney then begins to describe in detail exactly what he will do.
After breaking the boyfriendโs legs, he will take the boyfriendโs dad hostage and keep him in a cupboard. Grace getting a boyfriend is just not happening while she resides in Tierneyโs household.
โDad, listen. I want a boyfriend, Iโm getting a boyfriend,โ says Grace.
However, the dad tells her what is really going to happen โ she is going to join a convent of nuns. We have to admit, itโs a little over the top, but really, there is nothing that most dads wonโt do to protect their little girl.
โYouโre not getting a boyfriend. You are going to be a nun. You are going to be a nun! You are going to work for Jesus,โ Tierney tells her.
He then pulls out his cross necklace and shows it to the camera to make his point clear.
Of course, their whole heated argument is all in jest. Tierney doesnโt actually expect the girl to become a nun, at least, we donโt think so. Although, some overprotective fathers would certainly be more comfortable with that outcome than embracing the true reality โ eventually, some other young man will win their little princessโs heart over. Hopefully, for Tierneyโs sanity, that doesnโt happen until many years down the road.
Grace, on the other hand, canโt understand her dadโs point of view. She is completely outraged, However, Tierney is not having it.
โEnd of story,โ Tierney jokes.
Thatโs that. For now, the dad gets the final say in the matter. Although, weโre sure the day will come where he will have to renegotiate with the young girl. Until then, Tierney can sleep easy knowing that the four-year-old still has many years of childhood left before she fully grows up and becomes a woman.
