Positive thinking is one of the most powerful forces available to humans. With our minds we can control the world. One little girl is a stunning icon of the power of positivity. When she struggled with a horrible disease, she showed everyone just what positive thinking can do.
Sophia Marie Campa-Peters is only nine years old, but she has an incredibly strong heart. Two years ago, she suffered from a series of strokes. Initially, doctors were unable to identify the cause of these strokes. Eventually, however, they figured out the problem.
Sophia was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease known as Moya-Moya.”Moya-Moya is typically characterized as the narrowing of blood vessels in the brain which results in limited blood flow and eventual brain damage from the lack of oxygen to those areas of tissue,” explained Sophia’s dad, Scott, on her GoFundMe page.
Now that she was finally diagnosed, her treatment could begin. Sophia’s family scheduled a surgery for January 26, 2018, at Boston Children’s Hospital. She would need at least two surgeries to return the flow of oxygen to her brain.
With preparations underway, it was what Sophia did next that captured the hearts of millions. She asked for 10,000 prayers for her recovery. News outlets quickly got word of this heartfelt request and interviewed the young girl whose positivity had spread around the world.
Word even made its way to the White House, where White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared Sophia’s message.
“Today, Sophia, I am here to tell you that millions of people from every corner of the world will be praying for you on January 26,” Sanders said, “and among those will be people, and all of us here at the White House, including President Trump.” She then relayed Trump’s message: “Keep fighting, never give up. Keep inspiring us all, and never, ever lose faith in God – with Him all things are possible.”
With the support of millions, Sophia went into her surgery. And she came out stronger than ever. One of the first things she did when she came to was gesture to her mom, Karen, that she was okay. “In typical Sophia style she has made her signature move of saying ‘Still alive!’ while giving a thumbs up,” Karen told Lonestar 99.5 FM. “She created this move in defiance to doctors when she turned four years old and so many predicted she would not live to that age.”
Sophia recovered from her surgery quite nicely. “Her nurse stated she has never seen a patient like her with no swelling after surgery!” Karen exclaimed.
This young girl is still on the beginning of her journey to full recovery, but she has inspired countless others with her bravery. Sophia is a shining example of the power of positivity.
