When you find your soulmate, you find the person you can be completely yourself around – the person who can help you let your guard down and appreciate your innermost qualities. For this girl, finding that significant other was a dream come true. Her relationship allowed her to explore and appreciate herself in ways she had never imagined. You’ll never guess how her story unfolds.

Mackenzie Meaux grew up just like any other girl: she liked to dress up, and she wanted to feel beautiful. Despite these common desires, Mackenzie had a harder time than most recognizing her own beauty. Her struggle shaped her into a grateful and humble person.

Mackenzie was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis at the age of 8. The news was crushing for the little girl – she had a harder time fitting in with her peers, and she did not like the way she looked without hair.

“Nothing else is wrong with the body other than hair will not grow,” Mackenzie explained on a post to Love What Matters. “As you can imagine for a young girl, this is a huge confidence killer. A woman’s hair is their beauty and a main part of their self image.”

This girl’s struggle was not only an inward one, but one that existed in her social circles as well. “I experienced lots of bullying in the early years and along the way I lost all hope that I could ever feel beautiful again.”

That is, until she met the love of her life. Everything changed when Mackenzie started dating Bryan, her now-fiancé. This was a man who saw past Mackenzie’s exterior into her beautiful soul. As he showed her how to love herself, Bryan helped Mackenzie build up her confidence.

Since she entered into a relationship with Bryan, Mackenzie has been learning what real love looks like: “It is truly all about what’s on the inside . . . [the] people who love you do not care whether or not you have hair, and the ones who do are not worth your time or your love.”

With this in mind, Mackenzie decided to take a bold step in declaring her love for her self. Although she usually wears a wig, she did something different for her engagement photos. She took off the wig, and showed her true self!

“This is me, the true me,” Mackenzie said of her wig-less images. This photoshoot provided the perfect opportunity for the woman to showcase her acceptance of herself and her appreciation for her own beauty.

Mackenzie’s path of self-acceptance is an inspiration to everyone. We could all learn to appreciate the beauty around us a little more.

"This is probably the most difficult thing I will ever do in my life. While taking our engagement pictures, I decided it…
