A lot has changed since the last century, including the typical gender roles for men and women. Women have joined the workforce, and they are more self-sufficient than ever. Some men celebrate this newfound independence, while others are stuck in the past.

One artist, Eli Rezkallah, is out to show that the belief that a woman’s place is in the kitchen is old and outdated. His photographs in his series “In a Parallel Universe” force viewers to think critically about well-known gender roles.

“Last Thanksgiving,” Eli shares on his website, “I overheard my uncles talk about how women are better off cooking, taking care of the kitchen, and fulfilling ‘their womanly duties.’ Although I know that not all men like my uncles think that way I was surprised to learn that some still do, so I went on to imagine a parallel universe, where roles are inverted and men are given a taste of their own sexist poison.”

His recreations of advertisements from the past show just how much has changed over the years and prove that women are so much more than only homemakers.

Now that women are earning the wages, we could use someone to cook for us.
