A deranged motorist purposefully set his motorcycle on fire at a petrol station in Yibin, Sichuan.
Footage from a nearby surveillance camera shows the motorcyclist pull up to the service station. An employee fills his petrol tank, then sees the motorist pull out a lighter and lunges forward to try to stop him from setting the petrol on fire.
The worker succeeds in stopping the motorist from causing what would have been an enormous explosion, but the biker manages to tip his motorcycle over, causing it to collide with a petrol machine and burst into flames.
All of this happens in less than twenty seconds.
What follows for the rest of the 2:42 video is a courageous and strategic battle against the growing flames, waged by a handful of station workers.
A female employee, who must have noticed the trouble from afar or been called by the first employee, arrives within three seconds in a burst of fire extinguishing mist. She coats the ground around the motorcycle with the fluid to prevent the fire from spreading.
A man with another fire extinguisher seems to coat the ground at random, run out of fluid, and then throw an object into the fire.
Someone appears to jump over the flaming motorcycle, for reasons unknown.
A sinister trail of fire snakes its way from the wreckage, traveling over 20 feet and out of range of the camera. The motorcycle’s flames reach well over ten feet.
Just when things are looking catastrophic, reinforcements arrive.
A man runs up with a replacement fire extinguisher and extinguishes the line of flames that had trailed from the flaming motorcycle. He’s backed up by another employee with an even more powerful extinguisher, which emits a thick cloud of chemical flame suppressant that envelops the entire scene.
As the mist clears, a woman can be seen dragging the motorcycle, which is still on fire, away from the petrol machine. She drags it over a yard from the machine, slips in the fire extinguisher fluid, finds her footing, and drags the motorcycle another five feet or so.
More suppressant fills the scene, to the point that nothing can be seen at all. The video ends there, and according to local news, the fire was extinguished and the motorist has been arrested. The employees were rewarded only a combined $5,700 for risking their lives to put out the fire.
