We’ve all heard the saying that “one act of kindness always inspires another”, but it isn’t all that easy to track! We never really know just how far-reaching the things we do are. Still, kind people all over the world continue to do things that impact people they will never meet.
One garbage man in Norwalk, Connecticut found out that, occasionally, we CAN see the domino effect of a kind act.

Dave Kuban and Carlos Gonzales saw something that inspired them to keep the trend going.

Kuban and Gonzales own a local deli named Dave and Charlie’s Hometown Deli. While the two were getting ready for the typical morning rush, they noticed something going on outside. It was garbage day and the truck had just pulled up outside their restaurant.
When they looked outside, however, they noticed one of the garbage men walking away from his route to approach a woman.

The woman didn’t seem to be doing well and the garbage man had noticed. Instead of feeling bad and simply moving on, however, he approached the woman and gave her a hug. It wasn’t just a quick hug, either.
The man sat and hugged the woman for a few moments while listening to her explain her situation. He also gave her some money and said a prayer as well.

Unbeknownst to the garbage man, Dave and Carlos saw the whole thing.

The two snapped some photos and posted them on a local Facebook page. Soon, people were wanting to support the man and help him out for doing something so kind!

Soon, people were able to locate the man and find out who he was.
Mike Nance, an employee at WIN Waste Innovations, was the mystery man who was kind when nobody was watching.

When Nance was told that the entire event was photographed, his response showed his character.
“Anytime you see somebody walking around with everything that they own, talking to themselves—I don’t know. It just took over me,” Nance explained.
In his mind, a genuine hug, a little cash, and a prayer were just things that anybody would do for a woman in need.
When he was asked about his newfound attention, his response was amazing.

“I don’t really know how to feel about that,” Nance told News 12 regarding the online attention. “I’m a garbage man. We’re about the community. I’m about the community. I love Norwalk. I’m from Norwalk. I was born here. So whatever I can do to help, that’s what I’m going to do.”
For a man who was just caring for his community, it wasn’t anything that deserves fame. Still, that random act inspired Dave and Carlos to do something kind for the woman too. They decided to make her breakfast.
“After we saw him do that, we made her a little breakfast and brought it over to her. It’s a domino effect,” Carlos shared.
