Have you ever tried to design something only for it to go bad? Perhaps you’ve seen someone else’s design but instead of marveling at how great it was, you were completely stumped as to what it was supposed to be? Well, as these 60 design fails show … this is more common than you might think.
1. Someone needs to call the code inspector
Even as a small child, you learn to put the larger blocks on the bottom and the smaller ones on top. It appears as though someone forgot their childhood. All we can say is someone needs to call the code inspector … now.

2. What were they thinking?
Whose great idea was it to create dishes with spiders and ants as part of the design? Do they realize how many people are going to freak out? But there is a positive side … this would be a great white elephant gift.
3. More than one problem
First, the placement of the handicap rails is all wrong. Second, those aren’t rust spots that you see on the wall. Believe it or not, it’s part of the room’s design.
4. Scarred for life
Everyone loves Shrek. But this cardboard cutout of him … not so much. This is sure to cause more than one child to have nightmares.
5. The length of a shoe
That’s right. Unless your body size is no more than the length of a shoe, you’ll either have to shower somewhere else or stay dirty. We’re left scratching our heads.
6. Yummy pizza
When it comes to pizza, a lot of people love the stuffed crust version. But we doubt they’d go for this. Nope … that’s not cheese … it’s a hot dog.

7. Hiring a barber and stonemason
With this floor, the barbershop needs two kinds of specialists to run the business. One to cut hair. The other to clean the hair out of the rocks.
8. Get the bandages ready
Novelty cups are a big hit. Some people search high and low to add to their collection. But if you’re going to use this one, make sure you have lots of bandages on hand after you get stabbed in the face.
9. Interesting architectural feature
At first glance, this looks like a lovely walkway. To get inside, you simply climb a short flight of stairs. Oh, wait, they don’t lead anywhere.
10. Someone needs to confess
Can you imagine someone handing this to you? Especially if it was at a church for Passover Sunday? Yep … it happened.
11. The magic Mr. T cup
Duck lips on Mr. T … downright silly. But did you know that if you kiss them, he turns into a prince? Okay, not really.

12. For people who love to talk
Now, they can even go to the bathroom and carry on a full conversation. And the best part, they can see the person’s face they’re talking to. Oh, yeah, and everything else.

13. Not funny
You have to feel sorry for the poor people who try to turn on this faucet. It takes 20 minutes or more to figure out. Tell us again … what was the purpose of this design?

14. All better now
As you can see, someone messed this up royally but it’s not a problem. Another person came up with a brilliant way to fix it. All you need is a magnifying glass for it to work.
15. Just stay between the lines
That’s all you have to do and everything will be fine. Well, actually, it won’t be. Anyone in a wheelchair will never reach their destination.
16. Do your research before visiting Taiwan
When you get there, you’ll need to know a lot of things. As an example, which animal represents male versus female. Either that or you’ll have to wait to go to the bathroom until you get back to your hotel.
17. Home improvement
In Brazil, people do things differently than those in the United States. Take home improvement projects as an example. If they want to expand on an existing home, that’s what they do … wherever and however they please.

18. So, that’s what it’s for
How many times have you purchased Eclipse gum only to get so frustrated trying to get a piece that you tear the entire package open? Probably a lot, like most people. It would’ve been nice if the manufacturer had made this a little clearer.

19. Waiting comfortably
It’s very thoughtful when companies put benches outside for people to sit on to relax. That’s what you see here outside of a metro station. Unfortunately, they think most people find it comfortable to sit with their heads tilted downward.
20. Shake it, baby, shake
If you’ve ever purchased peppercorns, you know they’re relatively large balls of pepper. But this packaging makes it impossible to use them. You can shake it all day long and you’ll never succeed.
21. Interesting, very interesting
Yes, this soup bowl looks cool. But just try carrying it without making a mess. Even worse, you can’t lift it to your mouth to slurp the last drop of soup.

22. Was that really necessary?
Come on, why would anyone put a door there? More importantly, why would anyone authorize someone to put a door there? What a waste of money.
23. Your choice
Ah, wasn’t that nice? This mall made it easy for shoppers to take the stairs or use the wheelchair ramp. But perhaps they should also provide a warning for the latter of the two.
24. Cute baby
Okay, in all fairness, maybe the baby is cute when the bus window is closed. We said maybe. This isn’t the kid’s fault.

… teeth you have. It’s hard to believe this is a real mugshot. But if it is, the police won’t have any problem finding this suspect.
26. So close and yet so far
“Dear cakemaker.” Thank you for making the cute minion cake for our child’s birthday party. But the next time, just add one eyebrow.”
27. Looking cool, dude
This guy is a real chick magnet. Seriously, women probably flock to him like bees to honey. Now, men everywhere are going to buy a banana car.

Kids love getting chocolate for Easter. But we suggest parents stay away from this. Those eyes are super creepy.

29. The crime scene
Would you look at that? Somehow, blood from a crime scene ended up looking just like a flamingo. In reality, that’s a design of a flamingo on the floor that someone intentionally made using red paint, of course.
30. High fashion design
The one area of design where you’ll see the most versatility is shoes. Every year, high-end fashion designers come up with the most bizarre things as a way to get ahead of the competition. We highly doubt these are going to help.
31. It’s a cute …
… nose warmer. This is a real product that people buy. We get that noses get cold but this is taking design way too far.

32. Repurposing 101
Repurposing items is a great way to keep things out of landfills. But if you’re going to build a house from repurposed wood, don’t do this. Especially don’t make your home look like a scary monster.
33. Why so long-faced?
Oh, it’s the horrible design of this poster. It’s also the poor placement of it. All around, this is a major design fail.
34. Door number 1, 2, or 3
If you choose the correct door number, you could be in for a big surprise. Then again, probably not. Here’s another horrible attempt at repurposing material.

35. Huh?
How on earth is someone supposed to sit on that and eat at the same time? And with the width of the table, they’d have to put their legs on it. It’s obvious no thought went into this design.
36. Get it straight
For people with OCD, this will drive them crazy. Well, it’s enough to drive anyone crazy. Whoever put this circle on the Netflix volume control can’t see straight.
37. Simply nauseating
On one hand, this is kind of cool. On the other hand, if you look at it longer than two seconds, you’ll probably start to feel sick to your stomach. Hey, if you have people coming over that you don’t care much for, just wear these … they won’t stay long.

38. Why so complicated?
Although this happened in Thailand, it could easily apply to any large city. The map on the left was designed by the government to show Thailand’s bus routes. The one on the right … by members of the community.
39. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
A designer forgot that the same word can have several unique meanings. Case in point … this. We guess the best option is to flip a coin.
40. Does anybody really know what time it is?
Not with a watch like this … but hey, it’s a bargain at only $8. “Excuse me, what time is it?” “It’s a quarter after the right heart.”

We knew technology was advancing but wow, it’s really taken off. As you can see, this textbook has a video embedded. Too bad it doesn’t work.
42. A big announcement
With a product like this, there’s no need to ask your friends to set you up on a blind date. Instead, wear this. The only drawback … you have to wait until it rains.

43. Shimmy to the left
There’s nothing wrong with the design of these stairs. That is if you don’t mind shimming to the left and jumping over the railing. Otherwise, you’re out of luck.
44. Generous servings
People have favorite restaurants because of great service, affordable prices, delicious food, and generous servings. This place must be packed all the time. That’s what you call super-sized sushi.

45. Time for tea
Do you have in-laws who pop in unannounced? Do they stay well beyond their welcome? Have them over for a cup of tea … problem solved.
46. So, that’s where it’s at
Ever since the song came out, people have searched for the “Stairway to Heaven.” Lo and behold, it’s inside of a department store. Sounds good but it’s just a really bad design.
47. Selling like hotcakes …
… NOT. Now, for people who love to tinker with cars, this would be a fun project. But as a mass-produced vehicle, that’s an entirely different story.
48. Fill in the blank
The logo on these shoes looks a lot like a speech balloon. Perhaps you’re supposed to use a magic marker to write something inside of it. No, it actually looks more like sperm … yikes.
49. Why fix it if it isn’t broken
Whoever did this should’ve just left the scissor design alone. Now with the piece pointed inward instead of outward, the blades won’t close. This design is totally useless.
50. One at a time
As long as whoever lives in this house only opens one drawer at a time, they’ll be just fine. But if they have no patience, this will drive them crazy. We say sue the builder.
51. Cute idea … poor execution
If they’d only made a slight change. This could’ve been a really cute butter dish. Now, it’s nothing but an eyesore.
52. For people with tiny hands
You know, not everyone has normal-sized hands. Sometimes, they’re quite tiny. That’s when this cup would come in handy although using it comes with significant risk.

53. Skimping on quality
When designing labels for products, companies should never go with low-quality materials. The poor woman who purchased this couldn’t figure out why people were staring at her. Come to find out, she’d been walking around for hours with small letters on her face.
54. Blame it on the installer
You have to give the designer a break on this. This falls back on the installer for placing it there. Now, the guy looks like he’s wearing a very large jockstrap.
55. Top heavy
How was the construction of this building even allowed? As one of many buildings on a university campus, experts finally deemed it unsafe. So, it now sits empty.
56. What a rip-off
Sure, these are probably delicious without the chocolate drizzle but that’s what makes them spectacular. Can you imagine pulling the label off to find this? Honestly, this is wrong on so many levels.
57. You mean there wasn’t a better way?
Unless you live or work in an industrial-style building, you want unsightly pipes covered. That’s what one designer tried to do here. Please note … the operative word is “tried.”
58. It’s a conspiracy
We get it. Manufacturing companies turn to designers to come up with creative packaging. But don’t they put their foot down when the request results in something like this?
59. Designated parking
Finally … you’ve been assigned designated parking at work. You’ve waited a long time and now, you arrive at work to find this. What a cruel joke unless you ride a motorcycle and then, it’s not so bad.
60. Just amazing
Who knew something like this was even available? With this amazing pregnancy test, you can find out if you’re about to be a mom even if you’re in your third trimester. You can’t make this stuff up.
