Kids are pretty sophisticated when it comes to one-upping adults sometimes.
And adults aren’t always as smart as they think they are.
On Reddit, a viral joke shows just how savvy kids can be. And while we don’t really like calling anyone “dumb,” the joke has been titled “The Dumbest Kid in the World.”
“Dumbest” kid in the world…
A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.”
The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks,
“Which do you want, son?”
The boy takes the quarters and leaves.
“What did I tell you?” said the barber. “That kid never learns!”
Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store.
“Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?”
The boy licked his cone and replied,
“Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!”
Typical adult, right? We can be so short-sighted. And while kids aren’t always good at playing the long game, this one was! Imagine how much more money he ended up with by playing this game infinitely!
Commenters on a video enacting the scene were onto the ruse.
“Dam so smart kid if he gets the 10 dollars the guy won’t give him anything but he keeps on giving him the one dollar,” said one.
That barber’s not as smart as he thinks he is.
He clearly met his match in the kid who knows how to do math AND understand human psychology.
But one commenter pointed out the problem:
Nevertheless, nothing beats a good joke, especially these short story-type ones with a moral to the tale. They are best told around a table full of drinks in the company of friends.
After all, nothing bonds people together quite like laughter.
Give the kid a pat on the back for outsmarting a smartypants barber.
He made it a game all for ice cream – and we bet he’s tried every last flavor at this point.
