Love doesnโt cost a thing. Your wedding doesnโt have to either. Unless you want it to.
But one LA couple decided that they were going to play it frugally when they married in February.
And while the ceremony looked like it cost thousands, they only spent a total of $500 on their special day.

โOur goal was to just be as minimal as possible,โ bride Kiara Brokenbrough told Good Morning America. โAnd to spend the least amount of money as possible.โ
The Brokenbroughs didnโt want to start off their marriage by going into debt as the average American wedding costs about $30,000.

โI didnโt want to spend a lot of money on a dress because I had the mindset Iโm gonna wear this one time for a few hours,โ Kiara said.
So, she didnโt.
Kiara purchased her wedding dress on a website for just $47.

โWas it my dream dress? No maโam, but no regrets on this dress decision at all.โ
The groomโs suit cost about $100.
Though Kiara was married against a backdrop of stunning views, it didnโt cost a thing.

She found a place that could fit some chairs for the reception overlooking golden California hills off the highway.
The Brokenbroughs family also gifted them items for the ceremony like flowers and a runner.
Kiaraโs sister also bought a drone to create a beautiful wedding video.

โYou have a wedding, with witnesses there to witness you, vowing to your spouse, vowing to God that you guys are going to stay together for life,โ said Kiara. โAnd then you celebrate with food, drinks and dance. And thatโs exactly what we did.โ

She said her guests were also prepared to understand that this wasnโt your typical fancy wedding and that the goal was to save money.
And her guests were totally cool with that.
โThe people we have there, they understood the assignment, they understood the things that we were trying to do, and they really supported us,โ said Kiara.

All they cared about was what was really important, the union of two people in love.
โThe energy was great, and people were just there to truly celebrate us,โ said Kiara. โWhen I got out of the car, I just ran because I was just so excited. Iโm like, Iโm ready to do this.โ

After the ceremony, the family headed to a lounge where they ate and drank and did some dancing.
โIt felt so good to be around people who genuinely supported us and werenโt looking to be entertained. We wouldnโt have been able to pull this off if it wasnโt for the contributions of our families and close friends! It took a village and our village showed up!โ Kiara wrote on Facebook.
