Do you remember the last time you tipped your delivery driver or server? You probably didn’t think too much about giving one. For someone on the receiving end though, a good tip is enough to turn a bad shift around. In fact, it might even be life-changing.
That was exactly the case for Jeff Louis, a 22-year-old delivery driver from Gionino’s Pizza in November of 2015.
“We don’t open till 12 o’clock today but I was asked to come in a little bit early for a delivery. So umm I came in and right as we got in, we loaded up the car with the food,” Louis said in his video, “When I got to the delivery, it was to this church.”
In an interview with today.com, Kevin Wright, the pastor at The Life Point Church, stated, “we asked him to deliver one pizza to me on the platform where I had already planned on giving him a $100 tip.”
Wright told today.com that the planned idea of giving a $100 tip came after a record-breaking month of giving for the church.
The other $600 came from other church members who were moved by Pastor Wright’s generosity and wanted to contribute as well.
This delivery to The Life Point Church in Mentor, Ohio proved to be more than just any delivery.
Moved by the gesture, he posted a video to his YouTube channel, where he described his delivery as a “truly amazing” moment.
Prior to being taken down, Louis’ original youtube video was viewed over 1.3 million times.
“This whole church came up and gave me over $700 for a tip. This is truly amazing,” Louis said.
The first thing Luis did when he arrived back at the pizzeria where he worked was to try to share the generosity with his co-workers.
“It’s just so special,” says his co-worker after Luis returned to work.
What makes this story even more touching is Louis’ backstory. Louis is a recovering addict who is in the early stages of recovery.
“I’m having such a hard time lately. Just struggling to stay clean and everything. And I’m just trying to get my life back,” Louis recounts in his video while fighting back tears. “It just really truly amazes me that people who don’t even know me just wanted to help me out that much.”
The tip from Pastor Wright and the church isn’t the only blessing that has come Louis’ way. According to a report by ABC News, Cliffside Malibu, an upscale rehabilitation facility in Malibu, California, has since reached out to Jeff and offered him free services.
What Louis’ story here gives us is a testament to how important it is to get up and face each day. Although not every day may get off to a good start, there can be some surprisingly good things in store for us.
If there’s anything we can learn from this story, maybe Louis summarizes it as he closes his video. In a way, we are all,
“Blessed.”
