The generosity of this NFL player will move you to tears.

When it comes to generous people, NFL player Chris Long is at the top of the list. This Philadelphia Eagles defensive end promised to donate the first six checks of the season to a charity that funds scholarships for students in the community. This announcement, although extremely generous, came as no surprise since he has a history of giving.

In an interview with Chris Long about a recent march in his town involving white supremacists, he said:

“In August, we watched people fill our hometown streets with hatred and bigotry. Megan and I decided to try to combat those actions with our own positive investment in our community.”

Later that day, Long added onto his “six-game check promise” by promising also to donate his final 10 game checks to the same charity, along with a few others that help fund education in Philadelphia, St. Louis, and New England. Long played football for these three places, so the communities are very near and dear to his heart. His goal is to “inspire others to invest time, money, or passion into our communities and into our kids.”

In one football season, Long earns a total of $1 million.

His donation will be an amazing source of funding for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to further their education. His dedication to helping the community’s youth pursue their education is touching, and to those it will help, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Along with his touching generosity this season, he has done so much for his community over the years.

In 2015, Long started his own charity called the Waterboys Initiative, which was an offshoot of his larger organization, the Chris Long Foundation. The Waterboys Initiative helped rural communities in East Africa have clean and safe drinking water. The charity has created 26 wells, which has helped many people.

That’s not all, though. The Chris Long Foundation has also done amazing work helping veterans get back on their feet after hitting hard times, helping the homeless in various communities, and helping numerous youth groups get the funding they need for their specific causes.

We can’t forget Long’s amazing support for his teammates.

Although he does not feel comfortable kneeling during the National Anthem himself, his support for his teammates shines through. In an interview with ESPN, Chris Long told reporters:

“I play in a league that’s 70 percent black and my peers, guys I come to work with, guys I respect who are very socially aware and are intellectual guys, if they identify something that they think is worth putting their reputations on the line, creating controversy, I’m going to listen to those guys.”

Long also joined his teammates and brothers this season, Rodney McLeod and Malcolm Jenkins, in showing solidarity by raising a fist during the National Anthem. During the anthem, Long put his arm around Jenkins, showing his full support.

Long, along with many other NFL players, will inevitably continue doing charitable work throughout their communities. Although giving his entire year’s salary to help fund education may seem like a mere publicity stunt, it’s so much more. Let this be an example of the sincerely good people in the world today.
