Fleetwood Mac fans recently received amazing news when the band announced that they would be reuniting for a 2018 tour — including Stevie Nicks.
Keyboardist Christine McVie told the BBC TV show “The One Show” that the rumors of the reunion tour were indeed true. The iconic 1970’s band last headlined a show back in 2015 and fans have been anxiously awaiting news ever since.
“We’re going to start rehearsing in March, next year,” she told host Alex Jones. “The tour is around June. It will be global.”
Vocalist Stevie Nicks hinted at a possible tour when she interviewed with Rolling Stone back in March. Now, it seems those rumors have been confirmed.
Although details have not been revealed, the band has announced that they will be playing at a new music festival that will span both coasts called “The Classic.” They’ll be joined by other “classic” bands such as The Eagles, Journey, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Steely Dan. If you’re on the west coast, the festival is at the Los Angeles Dodger’s Stadium July 15-16. East coasters can attend the festival at New York’s Citi Field on July 29-30.
Even though the reunion tour is in the works, members of the legendary band still have their own solo and side projects as well. Stevie Nicks records as a solo artist and will continue to tour as well. McVie and fellow band member Lindsey Buckingham recently released a self-titled duet album, even though McVie was intending on retiring. Music, however, called her back.
As far as the band’s future is concerned, ‘farewell tour’ seems to be a loosely used term.
“The 2018 tour is supposed to be a farewell tour but you take farewell tours one at a time,” McVie told Uncut Magazine. “Somehow we always come together, this unit. We can feel it ourselves.”
So, what is it that keeps bringing the band back together after all of these years? It seems that they don’t quite know themselves.
“Why are we even still together as a band? It’s crazy. This group of people didn’t belong in the same band together in the first place, but here we are, 40 years later,” Lindsey Buckingham said. “There have been all of the breakups and all that stuff, but there’s a lot of love underneath.”
Official dates have yet to be released; however, you can catch Fleetwood Mac on Jan. 26, 2018 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, where they are being honored as 2018 MusiCares Person Of The Year.
