It takes great talent and confidence to make a judge in The Voice UK turn around. And if you are able to do that in less than one minute, you surely have something special.
Stevie McCrorie has a really unique and powerful voice. Singing the first few lines of Kodaline’s All I Want, he was able to impress the judges in an instant. Will.i.am thought he’s good and Rita Ora agreed.
Not wanting to wait any longer and lose the chance to have Stevie on her team, she quickly turned around for him. As he continued to sing, Rita got more and more drawn to him and his voice. At one point, she was even telling the other judges not to turn around.
But Stevie’s voice is hard to turn down
When he was able to deliver the highest notes almost perfectly, Tom Jones turned around for him. Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am turned for him, too. At this point, the crowd and Stevie’s family became ecstatic. He was able to get 4 judges to turn around for him!
The way each judge tried to convince Stevie to join their respective teams was quite funny, particularly Rita. She was clearly fond of the man and she was teasing him to pick her and join her team. At one point, she even rubbed his back.
If we were to be together, coaching-wise, we would set fire to the stage, and you wouldn’t need to put it out. -Rita said
In the end, however, Stevie chose Ricky.
Before picking him, Stevie made it clear that picking one judge isn’t a sign of disrespect for the other judges. Tom Jones and the other three were quick to assure him that they will all be fine, no matter which judge he goes for.
Stevie’s way to the audition wasn’t that easy. He had to perform despite dealing with a very serious family problem. His father happened to miss his audition and show his support after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. For a son who wants to make his dad proud, it’s a bit heartbreaking.
Stevie, however, was determined to make his dad and family proud no matter the circumstances are. Despite what he was going through, he was able to deliver a really outstanding performance.
After his blind audition, Stevie was able to go straight to the Battle Round where he went up against Tim Arnold. He performed Dragons by Imagine Demons.
After completing and winning that round, he performed U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For in the Knockout Round and that earned him a spot on the next two rounds.
Surprisingly, Stevie chose to perform the same song in the Finale of The Voice UK. And with the same power and precision, he was able to successfully deliver the song. He was declared the winner of that season.
After winning, Stevie released his winning single and it quickly reached the number one spot in Scotland. He released his first album and performed in several shows after.
In 2016, however, he parted ways with his PR company and his contract with his recording company expired. He returned to his old career as a firefighter.
Despite everything that happened, Stevie still has that intense passion for music. He continues to pursue a career in music as an independent artist.
