All too often we tend to take firefighters for granted
Some assume that these brave men and women just put out a fire and move onto the next one, not giving the previous one a second thought.
Paul’s Unfortunate Circumstance
Bush fires are not uncommon in Australia, and unfortunately, Paul Sekfy’s home was affected by one of these.
Not As Bad As Others
Fortunately for Paul, he did not suffer the damage to his home that others did. Some lost their lives in this one particular bush fire.
Urunga Rural Fire Service
Thanks to the quick response and expertise of the firefighters of the Urunga Rural Fire Services, Paul’s home was saved. He did lose two out sheds that the firefighters were not able to save.
What Paul Found When He Returned Home
When Paul was allowed to return to his home, he was anxious to see what condition it was in. He was very thankful for what he saw.
A Note To Paul
One of the firefighters had left Paul a note.
The Firefighters were thirsty and found some milk in Paul’s fridge. So they helped themselves to it. But left a note telling Paul that they owed him some milk.
Paul’s Heroes
Paul, of course, didn’t care about the milk. He was most grateful for what these professionals did for him. He posted about it on Facebook.
The Best Note
Paul jokingly commented on the firefighter’s note saying, “The best note on my kitchen bench since the morning after my wedding.”

The Fireman Responds
The fireman, Kale Hardie-Porter, responded to Paul’s post.
He said he was really glad to hear that Paul’s house had survived after they had left. Also, he was happy that Paul got the note. He said, “Paul Sekfy, you have made my day”.
Kale also mentioned writing the note was a little difficult as there was no power, so he couldn’t see what he was writing.
Great Response to the Borrowed Milk
A lot of the people who left comments made jokes about the milk
One lady said that if it was their house they had saved, they would be welcome to her whole fridge and everything in it.
Another man made a great statement saying that not all heroes wear capes.
The Bush Fires
This was a heart warming story to a very bad event. Over a dozen homes were destroyed and over 300 new fires had to be dealt with. The day was catastrophic for all in New South Wales
The even more devastating aspect of these fires is that they continue from one day to the next. Also, the rest of the summer has to be dealt with, which is always the high-risk season for these types of fires.
To date, there have been over 3,000 brave firefighters working diligently to put these fires out and save lives and property.
Stories like this should make us stop and think every day about what we have to be grateful for.
