Coosje Smid is a Dutch actress, singer, and writer.
She blew the judges away with her blind auditions on The Voice Holland.
Already an accomplished actress in Holland, Coosje has even received the Golden Calf award for her performance. The Golden Calf is the grand prize of the Dutch Film Festival, similar to the Golden Palm award of the Cannes Film Festival.
Coosje was awarded the Golden Calf award for Best Female Supporting Role in her debut role in the movie, Joy.
Since her award-winning performance, she has appeared in numerous films in various roles for several years before she moved to theater acting.
While acting in theater and film, she also focused on another creative passion, singing.
While she was still at Pop Academy, a music school that teaches their students to become pop musicians or pop music industry professionals, she was signed by Sony Music. She released an album with them called Happy Ending. She also graduated from Pop Academy with a degree in singing and songwriting.
She decided to audition for The Voice Holland with the song “Fields of Gold” by Sting.
Barely two seconds into the song, judges Marco Borsato and Ilse DeLange pushed their buttons and their chairs turned immediately. A few seconds later, the other two judges, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Ali B, also turned their chairs so overwhelmed with the beauty of her voice.
The judges absolutely loved her performance!
They even walked up to the stage and sat at the edge so they could have a better view of her performance.
Coosje was ecstatic at the four-chair turn but she didn’t let it faze her performance. She continued to sing beautifully and made the performance her own. The audience loved her blind auditions so much that they bought her rendition on iTunes.
Her fans went in droves and helped the single shoot up to the number one spot immediately after the broadcast.
When she finished her performance, she chose to be on Ilse DeLange’s team.
It’s not often a singer moves the judges so much they come out of their chairs and admire from an even more “front row” experience. It’s clear that Coosje touched their hearts and chose the perfect song to showcase her stunning voice.
