Traveling on a plane often leads to stories you’ll remember for many years to come. Unfortunately, they probably involve having your seat kicked, terrible delays, or other negative experiences.
A woman named Jessica Titus also had a memorable flight, only hers stood out for a different kind of reason. In fact, her story even went viral after Love What Matters shared it on Facebook.
It all started when Jessica was in line boarding her flight.
Trying to get to your seat on an airplane isn’t always the smoothest thing in the world. Between passengers stopping abruptly and hoping to not hit anyone with your own carry-ons – it’s relieving when you finally do settle in.
Jessica was walking behind an Army servicewoman as she tried to find her row. But even before they passed the first-class section, a man (who was already in his seat) stopped the uniformed soldier.
He had something to say to the servicewoman.
There are times when people accidentally sit in the wrong assigned seat. Usually, passengers then compare tickets, and it quickly gets resolved. According to the man, he had mistakingly sat in the soldier’s seat.
Jessica explained in her Facebook post what she witnessed:
“On my flight Tuesday, I walked down the jetway behind a woman in uniform (Army). A man stood up from his 1st class seat and said, ‘Sorry ma’am, I’m in your seat.’ ‘What does your ticket say?’ He asked.”
The soldier was immediately confused, as her seat was nearer to the back of the plane, and not in first class.
“She replied, ‘What? No – I’m 31 B.'”
But instead of checking his ticket again and realizing the confusion, he made a very different move.
“He walked away, leaving her with his first class seat and then took her middle seat in coach.”
Although the man could have just sat there, and maybe thanked the soldier for her service – he wanted to take it a step further. Giving up his seat was his way of showing gratitude to one of our many brave service members.
Jessica was so touched by the man’s kindness to the soldier, that she decided to do something kind for him in return.
She got out a piece of paper and wrote a small note on it. Then Jessica tucked some money into her note and handed it over to the good Samaritan. It said:
“Seat 31 B – Please accept a drink or snack on me. If everyone treated people the way you treated the servicewoman, the world would be a better place.”
The man didn’t end up accepting Jessica’s sweet offer, but it goes to show how much beauty can come from kindness! As Jessica suggests:
“Do good. Recognize good. Make the world better.”
It’s a story that’s warmed hearts across the internet. One Facebook user commented:
“No doubt that she will never forget how you made her feel that day! I never forgot when someone bought me a cup of coffee when I was in the Air Force.. Well done Sir!”
Someone else wrote:
“Well, this made me cry. I needed to hear about the beauty of some folks human spirit. May this become the norm.”
It’s common to go home after a day of travel with a story or two to share. For Jessica and the soldier, they both had a really sweet one that neither of them will ever forget.
