Father’s Day is always a great opportunity to revisit old memories from the past and think back on all the good times we had with our father’s growing up. However, there are all kinds of different ways to celebrate the holiday. Take for example what one father-son duo from Auburn, Washington did this year. They found a really cool way to celebrate.
While looking through old photos, Officer Andrew Gould found a photo of when he and his son Michael were cruising in his patrol vehicle back in the day.
As a tribute to their relationship, they decided to attempt to recreate it. The hilarious results were later posted on the Auburn WA Police Department Facebook page and have since been shared thousands of times.
The original photo from 1998 shows Michael riding on his dad’s lap in the police car with both of them looking out the window posing for the shot.
There is so much love in their smiling faces, and it’s obvious that the two must have had a great relationship growing up. Below the photo, there is even a beautiful handwritten note penned by Officer Gould’s son.
“When I get bigger I’m going to be my dad’s partner and catch bad guys and burglars,” it reads.
It’s clear that Michael definitely looked up to his dad a lot.
However, no one ever guessed that he would actually follow through on his childhood promise. Yet, that’s exactly what he did. Michael eventually became a police officer too!
Now, over 20 years later, he and his dad once again returned to the patrol vehicle.
This time though, instead of wearing a jean jacket, Michael had on his full King County Sheriff’s uniform. He was also a little bigger than the last time they took their lap photo.
“At 6’7”, it was a hard squeeze to fit Officer Gould’s son in his patrol vehicle on Father’s day this year, but they did it!” it says in the Facebook post.
Seeing Officer Gould and his 6’7″ son try and fit in the same seat in the cruiser is pretty hilarious.
However, our favorite part of the photo is how they are still all smiles, even 20 years later.
“As you can see, his son did follow his dad into law enforcement just as predicted in this Father’s Day card in 1998. Recreating the photo 20 years later was a wonderful tribute to father and son. Hope all you father’s out there had as wonderful a day as our own Officer Gould!”
While the two are not partners currently as young Michael had hoped in the original photo, their familial relationship has only strengthened over time.
Despite working in different departments, the father and son duo are just as close as ever and their love for one another shines through in both of the photos.
We are so happy the two were able to create such an amazing tribute to their relationship. Maybe one day, Michael and his future kids will even be able to make their own version of the photo as well!
