Fashion advice can arguably be… subjective. Those many do’s and don’ts won’t always work for everyone so people usually treat them as guidelines,
To keep up with it all can be exhausting, so here is a list of all those fashion mistakes that will age you. Looking older is the one aspect most people will avoid so check out what you definitely shouldn’t do.
Harsh Lipliner

This is no different from brooches and tweed, and other trends that have come and gone for the better. A dark lip liner just doesn’t blend well with lipstick.
Fuller lips make your face look younger, so overdoing it with a lip liner makes the mouth appear smaller. If you wear lip liner, don’t wear a dark color.
Go for something closer to the shade of your lipstick instead.

Skirts Worn Over Pants
This trend from the mid-aughts is back, and we don’t understand why. All it is is a nod to power dressing that does not empower you at all.
All it does is restrict mobility, so there’s no good reason to wear a skirt over those pants.

Wearing Too Much Black
Black is a slimming color, but wearing all-black outfit can make you look dull and even wash out your complexion. Black is not all bad, but as you age, black won’t be doing you any favors.
Pair a black outfit with a colorful accessory. Try a brightly colored blouse and some colorful jewelry, or even bold patterns.

Not Embracing Your Natural Hair Color
The fashion industry and aging are not exactly good friends, with many saying you should steer clear of natural grey and instead, dye your natural hair. But gray can be liberating and can even be a fashion statement to make you look attractive.
And besides, lighter hair can make you look younger, so embrace it.

Cakey Foundation
Many women wear a lot of foundation to cover up or distract from their fine lines and wrinkles. But all that does is make their skin appear more textured and grainy.
That overly done type of make-up can have you looking superficial and even fake.

Big, Poofy Hair
That big 80’s haircut is styled so big you can’t see the woman anymore. It was considered fabulous back in the 70s and ’80s, but it looks like she’s just stepped out of a time machine now.
Teasing, hairspray, and over-styling, really damages the hair, and that leaves it dull and lifeless. Keep your hair healthy and hydrated instead.

Baggy Clothes
We’re not saying skintight clothing will have you appear more “youthful.” Just wear pieces that are tailored to your body.
Baggy clothing like a loose summer tunic feels romantic, while a baggy dress or a flowing pair of pants can make you feel fun and artistic so choose and time your clothes wisely.
The issue is when you regularly wear pieces that are too big. There is a disparity between something that is designed to be loose, and something that is just a few sizes too big for no reason.

Bad Posture
Bad posture can make you look older, but when your back is straight and those shoulders are pulled back, you isntantly appear healthy, energetic, and elegant.
You can buy clothes today that help correct your posture. Useful for those who find it difficult to keep their shoulders back and their spine straight.

Wearing Outdated Trends
Fashion trends come, go, then come back again. The problem is when you date yourself by wearing old clothes simply because you haven’t updated your closet in a decades.
You end up looking dowdy rather than vintage.
If you love wearing trends from the past, recycle them and look for updated versions.
Pair those bell-bottom trousers with a tucked-in, button-down shirt. That knitted cardigan could go with some sleek jeans too.

Sunbathing
Those days spent laying out in the sun does irreparable damage to the skin. We’re not saying avoid the sun completely, but tanning is just not as popular as it once was.
Nowadays, it’s all about skincare. That means using SPF sunscreen when outdoors while following a skincare routine daily.

Heavy Eye Makeup
Back in the ’90s, heavy eye makeup was all the rage, meaning a lot of women went for the same look. But heavy eyeliner only makes you look more mature, even making your eyes appear smaller.
If you want to look younger, go for a bare and bright-eyed look.

Everything Floral
Wearing floral everything has you blending in with the furniture, all while aging you. Go for tailored pieces that go with casual items, like denim or a plain white t-shirt.
Other patterns you can wear in place of florals is a summer dress with a bold tropical print, or even a geometric pattern that will modernize your look.

Outdated Handbags
Handbags and purses come in a spectrum of different styles, colors, and designs to choose from. Ditch that massive handbag that weighs you down, and makes you look like Mary Poppins.
Smaller clutch bags and purses are trendy, while tote bags and a neat backpack are also in for those who want something utilitarian.

Never Smiling
There is a study where young, middle-aged, and older individuals were told to inspect thousands of photographs and were eventually asked to guess the age of models with different facial expressions.
Happy faces were rated younger than they really were, while unhappy faces were unsurprisingly rated older. Don’t forget to smile!

Let’s Brooch It
When it comes to a brooch, there’s a fine line between classic and antiquated. They’re not as classic as one might think. They were considered stylish back then, but it’s better to keep those brooches for sentimental value..
They might go up in value if you keep them in good condition too, so don’t wear them.

Over Plucking Your Brows
The eyebrows help frame your face. They draw attention to the eyes, so keep them well-groomed without over-plucking them into thin lines.
Over-plucking can damage and ruin the follicles, which produce and generate hair growth. Plucking all the time means the brow hair may not grow back so don’t overdo it.

Sunglasses
You only have one face, and that’s helpful when looking for the perfect sunglasses. It’s all about working with your face shape.
Whichever style you choose, don’t wear a pair that will weigh you down too much. Those thick, black frames with sharp edges won’t do you good compared to the delicate, light-colored frames on the shelf.

Wearing Sheer Pantyhose
The only acceptable pantyhose colors today are black or nude since they blend well with your skin tone.
If you wear stockings that are a few shades darker than your skin, nothing else you have on is going to matter. Tights aren’t trendy anymore so they only make you look older when you wear a pair.

Not Wearing a Belt
Tailored clothes that fit well make you look slimmer and younger. Wearing loose clothes make you frumpy so wear a belt over that boxy dress.
Clothes don’t always need to be fitted but if you feel like you look shabby, throw over a belt and see how well it transforms your look.

Turtlenecks
Turtlenecks work great for covering up your neck but they can also make you look a little passé by bringing more attention to your chin area.
If you want a classic look that’s timeless, wear a turtleneck with a pair of jeans or a trendy blazer to bring it up to date.

Flashy Jewelry
Many people have an instinct to wear lots of bling, but overdoing it can be self-defeating and will weigh you down. Too much jewelry just screams ”gypsy on the run”.
Don’t embellish yourself too much. Go for a more modest set of accessories.

Matching Too Much
We all want to look like we made an effort in the morning, but wearing too many matching items can have you looking like a candy wrapper.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t to to match, but try wearing pants that don’t match those shoes, and see what fun combinations you come up with going the alternative way.

Chunky Highlights
Those chunky blonde streaks were once all the rage but has now gone past its prime.
Hairstyles have come a long way since, so go for more subtle versions like balayage. It’s a technique for highlighting but done in a more gradual, natural-looking effect.

Longer Skirts
A skirt that goes all the way down to your ankles can end up doing more harm by making you look frumpy.
If you like loose-fitting skirts, pair them with a tailored blazer or a fitted top. Just make sure your proportions are in check.
Wearing a long skirt means you’ll have to balance the look with something shorter on top.

Capri Pants
Those dreaded capris just makes you look shorter and older all at once. They make your legs look shorter since the cut stops around your calves, making your legs look wider.
It’s just not flattering in any manner.
Ditch these unflattering capris for something more modern, like wide-legged pants, or anything that goes well with your frame.
