The internet can be a great tool when used right. Photos abound and when people upload unique and interesting pictures, they’re all worth a look over and over again. Here’s a list of interesting photos that you can share with the family.
A penguin’s coat of feathers
Who knew that they were laid out this way? We all see penguins as cute, fluffy creatures that kids want to hug and dance with on the TV screens. Adults love penguins too, even dressing up as one for parties.
This newspaper announcing the polio vaccine in 1955
No internet, no cellphones, no social media. Imagine the tension and the fear gripping the nation. Then they wake up one morning to see this on the paper.
Niagara Falls frozen solid
It certainly looks like a scene out of an apocalyptic movie or one of those dystopian types wherein they battle for a return to normal life. Someone should pour strawberry syrup down the ice and snow.
This wild mutation of a crocodile’s tail
The child of a crocodile and a shark. Or a mermaid. Hey who knows what otherworldly looking creatures dwell under the waters. Not a lot of people are brave enough to dive too deep.
Heated floors before the surface is installed
Now here’s something not a lot of people get to see. Almost like a floor out of Star Wars but heated floors are so wonderful in the colder months. Thank goodness for modern day technology.
This piece of material painted with a paint that’s so black, it literally looks like a void
Who says one cannot hold the greatest mysteries of the universe in their hands? It’s like a part of a black hole whatever it is. That’s got to be the blackest of black.
This passage that shows the evolution of the English language
Hast thou sayeth thy prayers? Okay no, it’s really difficult but this is really interesting seeing how it’s changed over the years. And that’s just the 23rd Psalm. Imagine how the whole bible changed.
X-ray of a 16-month-old child who swallowed a keychain
Not even going to ask how a baby got his hands on a keychain then swallowed it. This is parental neglect by the looks of it. The poor child must have been in so much pain.
The difference in shoes worn with a flesh leg and a prosthetic leg after a year
Brave. Whatever reason he may have had to lose a leg, and still continue to live life with a smile is admirable. Check out the wear and tear though. It won’t ever be even but he’s got his whole life ahead of him.
This McDonald’s stash that someone in Russia stockpiled in anticipation of all McDonald’s stores in the country permanently closing
That’s sad. McDonald’s sort of feels like that home away from home and no one wants to see it go regardless of debates on health issues. Well they’d better enjoy this stash then. Goes well with a McVodka.
This artist’s drawing progress between ages 15 and 25
The difference a decade makes. Of course, something has to be said about the artist’s dedication and perseverance. This is passion at its finest and we love artists.
This photo of the same whale taken 35 years apart
Another stunning take on the wonders of nature. Whales are fascinating creatures so who knows what kind of life this one had? Let’s hope this whale is still alive too.
An eye after a cornea transplant
Any successful operation, regardless of the body part, is cause for celebration. The human body is often taken for granted but it is amazing what doctors can do. So imagine having to operate on an eye.
This cost of living guide from 1959 that has me crying in 2022
We’re all thinking the same thing. A trick is to cut down on wants and to focus on needs and basics. Walk if it can be walked, cut down on chips and soda and booze, or even stay home and watch movies online.
This Burger King that dressed up as a McDonald’s for Halloween
And they really did ghost customers with burgers hidden in boxes labeled as “McDonald’s”. An interesting twist to go with that shake. Wonder if old Ronald enjoyed that whopper of his?
A couple enjoying an old-fashioned zipline at a fair, 1923
Now that’s how you let it all hang loose. No one thought of safety standards, instead focusing on the fun aspect. And these two were lucky enough to be on social media a near 100 years later.
A 50 meter tree in Costa Rica
If anyone’s thinking of having a Middle Earth themed party then this place is perfect. Feel like a Hobbit of sorts with your friends here. Way better if it’s not raining though.
This massive boulder in southern India that’s been sitting on this steep slope for the past 1,400 years
Well of course it’s been 1,400 years. Who would even be able to move this boulder? So imagine what would happen if nature shook and had this thing roll downwards. Yup, not fun.
This elephant wearing boots
Do elephants wear boots to help them get through mud? Is it a health thing? It’s pretty cute to look at, and it’s a wonder there’s a size large enough to accommodate them. Do they come in different colors?
Massive tree in Cairo, Egypt
Egypt. A place full of mystery, history, and culture. They’ve got pyramids, temples, statues, and who knows what else so this huge tree doesn’t seem so out of place. It wouldn’t be a surprise either if there was someone important buried beneath it.
A golden zebra
This coloration is caused by partial albinism and it has been known to happen among zebra. But it does look super cool and certainly not something you’d find in children’s coloring books or animal guides.
Meet Zippy, Britain’s second ever zonkey. His mother, Ziggy, is a zebra
Zippy and Ziggy are one of those unique crossbred animals. Most crossbreeds exhibit some form of developmental issues and by the looks of it, this guy is not an exception. Cute though, like a real life stuffed toy.
My ancestor King Billy (left), known for being the last “full-blooded” Aboriginal man in the colony of Tasmania. Me (right) born in America 150 years later
The spirit lives on. What we call today as “genes”. Now if only all of us had access to records and photos of our ancestors. Would be nice to see who you would look like.
Oldest surviving pair of Levis jeans, 1879. Found in a goldmine 136 years later
Levis jeans do have a history of being produced for miners. So this just adds to the company’s cool factor. And would you look at just how tough those pants are. A wash and dry later and you could still probably wear these.
Alice Roosevelt
There’s always one in the family. Alice must have given a lot of suitors headaches seeing as she could be tougher than they were in life. And besides, you don’t mess with the president’s daughter.
