Not everyone likes surprises. I understand – we don’t like to be caught off guard, and some people have a fear of the unknown (I am one of those people.)
But sometimes, surprises in life can be a very special experience. It gives us the chance to see someone’s true, genuine emotions, and there is a unique purity in that which is remarkable in itself.
And if there’s a surprise during the holidays? Well, sign me right up. I love those moments.
This family shared my fond sentiment of surprises during the holidays by organizing what they called, “A very special Christmas Gift” for their mother.
And what a special Christmas gift it was.
“Well, she’s very good at keeping secrets,” the mother says, completely unaware of the special secret her children have been hiding from her.
As she unwraps present after present, she still has no idea about the surprise in store for her.
“And these are all a clue to what your main gift is,” her daughter tells her in the video. “There’s more gifts in there.”
Honestly, seeing each present that this woman was unwrapping, I had a completely different idea of what her present was going to be.
Needless to say, I was just as surprised as she was when I saw what all this was leading up to.
After unwrapping several presents, this mother was finally surprised with her main present: an adorable senior Yorkie named Archie.
Her expression speaks for itself how surprised she was.
The two immediately seem to hit it off. Archie, wagging his little tail with the spirit of a puppy, begins to shower his new mom with kisses.
And mom here, no doubt overcome with love for her new furry child, begins to get emotional over the new addition to her family.
“Oh my god,” she utters in complete disbelief.
It is precisely this reaction that makes surprises so much fun to be a part of.

I have to agree with Kate there. I love the fact that Archie is an older dog – pairing senior citizens with senior dogs is a cause I am passionate behind. They make the best companions!
What a kind and generous surprise these children did for their mom. I hope she and Archie have made each other’s lives even more fulfilled!
