When was the last time you received a package late?

Ever since the dawn of mass transportation, we enjoyed the conveniences of modern logistics.

We can send letters or order packages from one state or country, then expect them to end up on our doorsteps.

But that wasn’t always the case.

Alas, the system is not perfect.

There can be hiccups along the way where packages can experience delays for days or weeks. But for one family, they received a package from half a century ago.

Stephani Russo was dumbfounded when she saw a strange package on her doorstep.

“We found two parcels on the outside of our door,” Stephanie Russo said to a news outlet. “At first, I didn’t pay much attention because we’ve had plenty of packages delivered in the last month.”

And for avid online shoppers, we can easily forget that we bought something a month ago. The family took the package.

They weren’t ready for what was inside.

They found two psychedelic posters inside the package. They were colorful and bore the style of a bygone era.

It was a poster for a kind of cocktail, which made the family scratch their heads. Who among them ordered these posters?

No one from the Russo family ordered the package and so they tried to dig up some clues. They found one taped on the package.

The package was from the seventies.

“So, upon examining the packages, the first thing I noticed was the postmark, which was March of 1971,” Stephanie Russo said to the news outlet.

Two posters were supposed to be delivered to their address but apparently, it was 50 years late. Can you imagine receiving what you ordered after half a century?

To put it in perspective, the package was still finding its way from Nixon up to Biden. Rather than disposing of the packages, the Russo’s decided to track down the recipient.

They started to trace the previous owners of their current address. After some digging, they found a name belonging to a certain John Feigert.

He is now currently residing outside of Atlanta. Feigert shared that he was 13 years old when he lived at the current address of the Russos.

Feigert blamed his father.

“Audubon calendars with advertising stuff and so on and so forth, so pretty cool,” he said, as quoted by WPTV.

Apparently, his father was known to randomly write companies and request stuff.

Feigert believes that the posters were misplaced then instead of disposing of them, the post office sent them anyway.

“I think recently, obviously, somebody found it and I think they knew,” Feigert added. “They saw the date and I think they thought, ‘I got to send this on.’”

The Russos kept one poster.

They sent Feigert the other one. Packages or letters getting sent after a massive delay are not uncommon. In Lithuania, a letter arrived coming from Poland.

Genovefa Klonovska thought she was being pranked when she received the letters.

Turns out, the letter fell into a ventilation hole and when it was found, the post decided to send it on.

“It’s so good that the letter was inconsequential. The loss was not life-changing,” said Klonovska to The Guardian. “What if they delivered a lost letter from a suitor to his love, and their wedding never happened?”

Good thing the Russos just received some posters then.
