Gender reveals are getting a lot of bad press lately, after a number of them took catastrophic turns like the one that caused environmental destruction in California.
But there’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned pregnancy reveal!
Just please, don’t start any fires.
This couple has decided to tell their family that their second baby is on the way, and chose a special occasion – Thanksgiving! Katherine and Chris are making their daughter Claire the star of the reveal by putting her in an adorable mustard yellow, puffy-sleeved shirt with “Big Sister” printed on the front.
Let’s see who takes notice of this little cutie’s fashion!
They’ve got a busy day ahead with a lot of family to surprise.
One family member got privileged early access to the big news. Chris shared a photo of his daughter’s new shirt with his dad the day before, but still caught the reaction on camera!
Their first stop is a full house, where Katherine’s mom, dad, and younger siblings all live. Before anyone even has a chance to notice little Claire’s t-shirt, she’s surrounded by hugs and kisses from family… and the dogs!
Katherine keeps trying to nudge her sisters in the right direction by giving them a reason to look at Claire from a reading distance… but they just won’t bite. She’s too cuddly.
Eventually, one of her sisters becomes the first to notice – and the look on her face is priceless!
She looks like she’s ready to cry! And due to her reaction, the other sister catches on pretty quickly afterwards. They’re both speechless, jumping up and down with excitement.
They get to be aunts… again!
But they keep the news to themselves and wait eagerly to see how their mom will react.
Katherine gives her the biggest hint possible, by asking grandma to read Claire’s yellow shirt. But instead… she just looks at her and says
“You look like a squash.”
She’s far too distracted by the cute baby to spend time reading what’s on the shirt!
Katherine keeps pressing her mom to read the shirt.
“Big… big something.”
But grandma goes back to bouncing the smiling, giggly baby. A few more “but what does the whole thing say?” prompts later, she reads the other half of the shirt.
When grandma figures it out, her face drops in the most hilarious way.
(And it’s extremely important to me that you notice the cat mid-leap at the exact same moment in the background.)
She’s overjoyed and showers Katherine and Chris with her congratulations.
Another baby in the family?!
Claire’s uncle takes a little longer to catch on… and that leaves just one family member in the house to break the big news to – and that’s Grandpa.
He gets back from the gym and immediately starts cuddling his adorable granddaughter. He’s not paying any mind to the camera or the yellow t-shirt.
Is there anything cuter than grandparents with a baby?
The girls are all giggling and trying to get him to make the connection. He even says “big sister” out loud a few times.
“That’s doesn’t make much sense does it?”
He doesn’t understand why everyone is laughing, but he’s just too distracted by the cute baby to connect the meaning to the words.
I’m on the edge of my seat. When is he going to figure it out?!
He gets a little help from his wife before it clicks. And then he’s in a state of permanent shock. You can see all the emotions running across his face – confusion, surprise, excitement, joy.
His reaction has got to be one of the best.
These are some pretty excited grandparents!
Next they make the rounds to Chris’s family.
His dad has a big grin on his face because he’s in on the secret – and doing his best to keep it under-wraps in front of everyone else. But Chris’s sister takes note of the printed shirt instantly.
It seems Chris’s family is either way more detail oriented than Katherine’s… or grandpa spilled the beans.
His side of the family figures it out within minutes of them being there!
And everyone is eager to know if it’s a boy or a girl, but it’s too early to tell.
The rest of the extended family pick up on it over the course of their day-long Thanksgiving celebrations as they visit four different houses.
