When there’s an excavator on site, it usually means that land, where a deer would normally roam, will be swallowed up to make room for new construction.

However, when an alarm was activated on a plot of land an excavator was there to save the life of a baby deer.

When Bill Davis reported to the alarm, he found a two young deer trapped in a large pool of mud. That’s when the men on site hopped in the excavator to free the little baby deer.

The entire rescue was captured on video. Though it’s hard to make out the deer, the little one is definitely there. The machine first digs a pathway so that the backhoe is able to lift the deer up. The excavator gently scoops up a mound of mud with the deer inside and place her on the side where there is firm ground.

“Just set her down, let her walk out,” a voice can be heard saying. “Come on baby, come out. There you go.”

Finally, the deer is standing on her own four feet.

“Run, baby run yay,” the man says laughing. “She looks confused. Awww, she’s cold, little baby.”

The baby deer gains her composure and runs off into the woods. Once that baby deer was free it was time to rescue the second deer who was still struggling. The excavator can be seen slowly lifting the deer to safety while the deer’s back legs hang over the side of the excavator claw. The deer somehow knows not to move this entire time and is staying completely still.

“That’s her buddy right there,” the man says.

Once the claw touches the ground, the deer starts to wiggle around attempt to gain some balance. The deer wiggles off of the claw but just lies in the mud for a while.

“Come on get up, get up baby,” the man calls out to the deer.

The deer attempts to stand but then falls back down.

“Oh, please don’t be hurt,” he says to the deer. “Come on catch your breath. Catch your breath.”

The deer still just sits lying in the mud looking around.

“Come on baby,” he says.

Finally, after a few struggling moments, she gets up and walks away.

“She’s like a newborn baby dude,” one of them says.

“She’s just tired as hell,” the man says. “Who knows how long they’ve been in here.”

Eventually, the deer ran off into the wilderness with other deer.
