Paying it forward isn’t always easy. It means seeing someone in need and going above and beyond. But one Texas daycare owner took that to another level with one of his loyal employees.
Alex Rios owns Kids’ Kollege Learning Center in Texas.
He and his employees work hard to make it a great place for kids to be. Rios loves the kids that he works with — but he also loves and respects his employees and always aims to reward them for their loyalty.
So, when he found out that his cook had a need, Rios didn’t hesitate.
He knew that Solis had been through a rough couple of years, having received a recent diagnosis. Thankfully, she underwent treatment and was able to overcome it — but it was by no means easy.
“She’s been very loyal to me,” said Rios. “When she started working for me, she received her diagnosis. She never told anybody here, she would never miss work, not even after getting her treatments and whatnot. Still to this day she has not missed work.”
He was concerned when he noticed that Solis was getting to work late on a regular basis.
When he asked her why she told him that she didn’t have her own car. She usually carpooled with her mother, but she had now moved out of state.
Rios took matters into his own hands and decided to change the situation. He filmed her reaction to inspire other people to do good deeds for those in their own lives.
“Why I’m doing this is I’ve been blessed in my life,” said Rios.
“So, this is just one way of paying it forward. I hope that this touches your life and maybe somewhere, sometime, you pay it forward yourself.”
Rios tricked Solis into thinking they were filming a commercial for the daycare. Instead, he took her out to see her new gift.
When she saw the the gift, she collapsed into Rios’ arms, sobbing happily.
She couldn’t believe that the whole reason they were there was to show the wonderful gesture he had made for her.
Rios jokingly told her she had no more excuses for being late. He reminded her that she had told him to go ahead and hire someone else — someone who would be able to reliably get to work. He wasn’t interested in doing that. Instead, he wanted to look out for his own.
“It is not every day that we can do something like this for other people, but right now that I am able to, why not do it for someone that cares for you and takes good care of your business? It‘s because we love her, and she has inspired my life to never give up and always work hard.”
But with any luck, Rios didn’t just make a difference in the life of his employee, but also, as he hoped, inspired others to act, too.
