School talent shows are always a treat to watch. After all, you were once on that stage yourself, anticipating the audience’s reaction to something you’ve spent days practicing. Or if you weren’t big on performing, you were involved in one way or another: helping out backstage, assisting your friend with costumes and props, or probably in the audience as well, cheering on your favorites. Basically, it’s always been a great way for everyone to get involved – for kids to actively show support for their best friends and classmates, and for parents to see how brilliantly their kid will do onstage.
It’s such a colorful show, too.
From traditional talents to unconventional ones, you really never know what you’ll see next.
One kid could be breakdancing and moving to the latest hiphop track and another could be belting out the chorus to a top 40 hit. Someone might even bring a pet or an unusual prop, and another might pull out his wand and hat and show off a couple of magic tricks.
Then you have the really creative ones who can make something of just about anything, like using pillows as heads to create a “pillow people” dance choreography.
These kids sure know how to think outside of the box!
Check out the pigtails on the pillow people’s heads and the long lashes. The red, long-sleeved tops donned by the kids really set off the colorfully drawn faces, too.
As the curtain rose and the audience caught sight of the unique costumes, they couldn’t help but let out delighted gasps as they broke into applause. That’s the wonderful thing about talent shows – kids can be as creative as they want and use the stage to really let loose and show what they’ve got. Judging from the immediate applause and cheers, they were already a big hit. And it was only the beginning!
To add to the audience’s delight, the song choice was perfect, too. When “Cha Cha Slide” by Mr. C The Slide Man started playing over the speakers, the kids started bobbing along to the catchy beat and elicited even more cheers and applause.
The choreography was simple but it was definitely a crowd pleaser.
The four kids whose faces were concealed by pillow faces did the steps dictated in the lyrics of the beat. Then, a different song came on but things only got better (and cuter!) from there.
The gliding, stomping, bobbing, and the arm movements made the costumes seem quirkier than ever. If you think about it, the entire concept would be great for a kids’ show, whether animated or not. After all, it immediately appealed to both grown-ups and kids in the audience.
Kids are so incredibly creative.
That’s why it’s always so refreshing to see parents and schools helping them unlock their potential and encouraging them to express their creativity freely.
There’s nothing like a healthy environment where kids can really thrive, openly share their talents, share their ideas with confidence, and support each other. Initiatives like talent shows are met with such eagerness and excitement.
Kids would usually rather play outside or catch up on their favorite shows when homework’s out of the way, but talent shows sure do bring out the best in them. Imagine using one’s free time to exchange ideas, decide on an act, and put together costumes and choreography, just to be able to put on a good show for their parents and peers. Here’s hoping the tradition stays for years!
